Overview The Medical Assistant is responsible for a variety of patient care, technical, and clerical related functions under the direct supervision of the physician and practice manager. Is responsible for the clinic patient flow by assisting members of the patient care team and providing a wide range of health care services while supporting quality and safe care. What you will do Maintains excellent clinical competency by adhering to the standard clinical expectations for Riverside Medical Group. This includes updating, verifying, and maintaining patient records by properly interviewing the patient and confirming purpose of visit. Prepares patient for examination by obtaining vital signs proficiently (including manual vital signs when mechanical devices are not available). Prepare and sanitize exam rooms before and after patient appointments. Administer medications and vaccines under the supervision of a physician. Assists with processing prescription refill requests for approval and forwarding to pharmacies. Maintains medical inventory of supplies and keeps exam rooms stocked appropriately. Keeps any necessary equipment in operating order and facilitating preventive maintenance when needed. Ensures compliance with healthcare regulations with scope of practice, HIPAA, and OSHA standards. Completes all required competencies and education to maintain skill level to provide safe patient care. Acts as a liaison between physician and patient, by providing support and comfort to patients and families during clinic visits and procedures as needed, including chaperoning during sensitive examinations. Demonstrates excellent customer service to include providing timely patient response and follow up by phone and electronic means. Manages patient expectations with clear explanations (i.e., informing patients about delays as appropriate) and effectively manages the providers' patient schedules. Updating patient prenatal lab forms for all follow up patients. Take vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure. May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician or RN. Chaperone when appropriate and assists during certain minor surgeries and diagnostic procedures, such as Pap Smears. Stocks examination rooms and triage area with medical supplies. Inventories and reorders supplies. Document all information in EMR. Check EMR tasks daily Maintains clean, well-equipped examination rooms; cleans and sterilizes instruments. Train and orient new medical assistants. Qualifications Must have working knowledge of computers. Customer service-oriented individual is required. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Have the ability to read and comprehend all information required for this position. Women’s health experience preferred. Experience in a “fast paced” ambulatory setting preferred. Successful completion of a Medical assistant program (or equivalent military training) and certification (CMA or RMA) is required.
