Job Description Our 3 East unit is seeking a Nursing Assistant to join our team in Wilmington, DE! The nursing assistant role is responsible for assisting with general activities of the patient care unit and assist the health care team with performance of patient care activities, under the direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse. Position is full-time, 60 hrs every 2 wks, rotating day and night shifts with weekend and holiday requirement. 3 East is a surgical intermediate unit with a high population of patients requiring post-operative care for urological issues, traumatic injuries, and general surgery. 3 East also cares for patients with acute and end stage renal disease and patients requiring an intermediate level of nursing care due to their tracheostomy and/or ventilator needs. Each patient room is equipped with oxygen, compressed air, and suction along with state-of-the-art cardiorespiratory bedside monitors and computers that enable the healthcare team to access a patient’s electronic medical record. The patient care complexity directly relates to the wide range of patient care skills required for this diverse patient population. The goal of this unit is to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care. The Synergy model is used in making appropriate patient assignments based on patient and family needs and nursing skill set. Special equipment used on this unit includes infusion pumps, syringe pumps, feeding pumps, BiPap respirators, Oxygen delivery methods, PCA & epidural pumps, wound vacutainers, ventilators and specialty beds. Nursing competencies include: chest tube management, pain management, blood product administration, urinary catheterization, tracheostomy care, ventilator management, and central line care and management. Essential Functions Ensures an adequate stock of all necessary equipment and supplies in designated areas at established par levels. Ensures a clean and safe patient care unit. Assists patients with activities of daily life (bath, feed, play, etc.) and provides other patient care as directed. Assures all supplies are accurately charged. Contacts pharmacy, dietary, and other departments as designated by the Registered Nurse. Collects patient specimens (blood, urine, stool, other per policy), paying close attention to patient safety, comfort and accuracy of information. Uses Hospital Information Systems as required for patient care, (e.g. documenting vital signs and patient care activities.) Accurately relays information from physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel and others. Transports patients and delivers reports, supplies, etc., to other patient units or Institute locations as needed. Courteously and professionally covers patient care unit front desk as needed. This includes promptly answering telephones, greeting patients, sending reports, distributing, sorting, or processing mail, entering orders, managing medical record, etc. Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation Participates in unit, departmental and hospital education programs. In addition, stem cell and bone marrow donors are cared for on this unit. The type of patient care provided in this area is complex due to patient diagnosis, the intensity of therapy, the criticality of patient condition, and the extensive patient/family issues that necessitate nursing intervention. This position can flex to all units in the hospital as well to the hematology oncology clinic as needed. Essential Functions Ensuring a clean and safe patient care unit, assisting patients with activities of daily life (bath, feed, play, etc. Collects patient specimens (blood, urine, stool, other per policy), paying close attention to patient safety, comfort, and accuracy of information. Uses Hospital Information Systems as required for patient care, (e.g., documenting vital signs and patient care activities.) Accurately relays information from physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel and others. Be the Best Hospice Aide You Can Be If you meet these qualifications, we would love to meet you: Certified by the state as a nurse’s aide, with completion of required training and a passing score of 85% or higher on the agency’s competency exam; additional requirements vary by state (e.g. CHHA in CA/NJ, CGNA in MD). CPR certification required for direct patient care in Georgia and Washington. Must be listed on the state aide registry with a clear record and eligible to provide care in homes, nursing facilities, or hospitals. Requires a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and state-required auto insurance. Responsibilities: Provide compassionate, hands-on care to hospice patients, including assistance with personal hygiene, repositioning, and mobility support for individuals who may require lifting (up to 200 lbs with assistance). Observe and report changes in patient condition, collaborating closely with the RN and interdisciplinary team to ensure responsive, individualized care. Support patients in their homes or care facilities through frequent movement and physical activity, such as walking, standing, reaching, and occasional driving, ensuring timely and dignified end-of-life care. Document care accurately and timely to reflect the evolving plan of care, including interventions, goals, and patient needs.
