In addition to routine surgical anesthesia recovery on adult and pediatric populations, the PACU provides services for the recovery of medical diagnostic procedures. Our PACU’s are true multidisciplinary units, where specialties of anesthesiology, surgery, and critical care can intersect and confer about complex perioperative clinical issues in surgical patients. The schedule for this position will be three 10-hour shifts per week, 11am - 9pm, with the potential for an earlier start/end time based on department staffing needs. Summary: Provides routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital, clinic or home health care setting. All work performed is under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician. Responsibilities: 1. Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations. 2. In the psychiatric setting, aids patients in reality orientation, participates in behavior modification plans/therapy, provides informal support therapy to patients/families, provides verbal de-escalation of potentially aggressive patients, aids in the physical management of aggressive/out-of-control patients, facilitates age appropriate play for children, and monitors the therapeutic milieu activities on assigned unit to ensure that emotional and safety needs of patients are met. 3. Observes, collects, and documents patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician. 4. Provides assistance to patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital/clinic/home health experience, and discharge 5. Nursing Care Assistant l/Health Unit Coordinator – Inpatient Medical Oncology Unit 5200 Department Summary: NP 5200 is a 37-bed inpatient adult medical/stepdown oncology unit. Our main patient populations involve symptom management for oncology patients, administration of chemotherapeutic agents, and end-of-life care. Nursing care is provided in collaboration with other departments and disciplines including hospital medicine, surgical services, pharmacy, case management, social work, nurse navigators, dieticians, and chaplain services. The unit is also part of Duke Cancer Institute of Wake County, which provides comprehensive cancer treatment for patients in Wake County receiving care across the continuum of inpatient and ambulatory settings. General Description of the Job Class: The Nursing Assistant (NA) is a patient care support partner with the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and performs work as delegated by the RN or LPN. The NA provides direct care to patients and assists with non-direct patient care unit coordination. The individual in this position is expected to perform basic care and comfort standards as well as have knowledge of the patient population needs in the assigned work area. In addition, the NA is expected to assist the RN in the care of acutely ill patients.
