About Mohawk Valley Health System Wynn Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department team! The Wynn Hospital is New York's newest hospital and our Emergency Department has been designed and built with our nurses and patients in mind. Our 64-bed unit is designed in a pod formation to increase efficiency and create a fully encapsulated work environment. We are also a Level III designated Trauma Center with 2 state-of-the-art trauma rooms ready for immediate response to the most emergent patients. Additionally, our ED features a Behavioral Health sub-unit for psychiatric emergency care, as well as an Urgent Care Super-Track which allows less emergent patients to be seen more quickly. Nurses generally experience a 4:1 ratio and no hallway beds. Job Summary The Registered Nurse promotes and restores patient's health by completing the nursing process: collaborating with Physicians and multidisciplinary team members: providing support to patients, visitors and families. Responsible for assessing, planning, promoting and evaluating quality patient care. A Registered Nurse provides teaching to patients, families and the public. Why the ED Boarder RN Role? This unique position supports admitted patients who remain in the Emergency Department while awaiting an inpatient bed assignment. These patients have been evaluated and admitted by the appropriate inpatient service and require continued acute care nursing management until transfer to their assigned unit. This role does not provide care for active Emergency Department patients. Instead, the Boarder RN focuses exclusively on acute care (non-ICU) level admitted patients boarding in the ED, ensuring continuity of care, safety, and patient experience during this transition period. What Makes This Role Unique? Continuity of Care: Provides inpatient-focused nursing care to admitted patients while awaiting room placement on an acute care unit. Patient Advocacy: Ensures appropriate monitoring, medication administration, documentation, and communication with admitting services, consults, dietary, etc. Reduced ED Throughput Pressure: Does not carry an active ED assignment, allowing focused, high-quality care for boarding patients. Collaborative Practice: Works closely with ED physicians, hospitalists, specialists, case management, inpatient nursing teams, ancillary areas, and consultants. Flexible Skill Utilization: When ED census is low, RNs will float to other acute care inpatient units within the hospital to support staffing needs (no floating outside of the hospital). Scope of Responsibilities The ED Boarder RN will: Provide comprehensive nursing care to admitted patients awaiting inpatient bed placement. Perform assessments, medication administration, monitoring, and documentation per inpatient standards of care. Coordinate care with admitting providers and interdisciplinary teams. ER RN Position Summary The ED RN provides nursing care for emergency and trauma patients. The ED plays a significant role in the hospital’s Stroke, AMI and trauma programs. There is also a specialized area for adult and pediatric mental health evaluations. The ED RN is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating a plan of patient care utilizing ANA Standards and the nursing process. The ED RN acts as a patient advocate. The ED RN provides support, information and direct care and utilizes equipment and technology skillfully and is technically competent in nursing procedures. ER RN Position Requirements Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Registered Nurse. Must hold a license in the state of permanent residency. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) PALS and ACLS required within 6 months of hire ER RN Work Schedule May be assigned to day, evening, or night shifts or a combination per departmental policy. Scheduled off at least three holidays per year. Required to work weekends per unit need. Expected to work overtime on occasion.
