The Experienced Clinical Nurse at MD Anderson Cancer Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. They impact quality of patient care, patient outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, an RN license, and at least one year of nursing experience in an acute care setting. Candidates must work the Day/Evening shift from 7:00am - 7:00pm shift, Monday - Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays. The Rehab/Neuro unit is a 32-bed unit and the unit cares for neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and in-patient rehab patients. The patient population is mostly adults ages 18 and older. Our unit focuses on acute care patients and Neuro Progressive Care patients who require more hands on monitoring the first 24 hours post-surgery. Acute Care Services is seeking highly skilled Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (AGACNPs) and Physician Assistants with a strong clinical background in medical-surgical, Neuro ICU, critical care, and post-surgical settings. The ideal candidate demonstrates advanced clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to manage complex, high-acuity patients. This paid program will assist you with the transition out of the classroom setting through a formalized series of learning experiences, including: Advanced clinical training in a specialty area. Monthly educational sessions. Preceptorship training with a facility preceptor. Measurement and evaluation of skills through hands-on simulations. Mentoring from experienced nurse leaders. Working collaboratively on an evidence-based practice project. The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN Resident provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN Resident serves as an advocate for patients, families and caregivers to support an unparalleled patient experience. What will you do in this role: Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status. Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner. Perform the administration of prescribed medications. Monitor patient for therapeutic response. Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication. Perform exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strive to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively. Teach patients, families and caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
