Responsibilities The Pre-op/PACU RN is responsible for the pre-operative and post-operative care of the surgical patient for the department. Multidimensional responsibilities include patient/family teaching and patient care throughout the pre-anesthesia and post-anesthesia recovery phases of care. The registered nurse in Pre-op/PACU is involved in the assessment, nursing diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of perceived, potential or actual problems associated with anesthesia agents and surgical procedures.. Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION Graduate of an accredited Nursing program. MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE Minimum of one year acute care experience as an RN preferred. Recent working experience in pre-op/PACU preferred. Critical care background preferred. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse. Certified in Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association. ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of employment. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License. REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of professionalism during stressful times. Strong critical thinking skills. How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Maintains accurate and legible progress note documentation in SOAP format and adheres to formulary guidelines.
