About this Job: MedStar Medical Group Anesthesiology is seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Acute Pain Service (APS) consulting team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. As part of a cohesive and highly specialized APS team, the NP will play a vital role in advancing pain management practices while working closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary care teams in a hospital setting. This role offers a high-impact clinical experience within a fast-paced, collaborative environment, serving a diverse patient population across a wide range of complex surgical services. Position Overview The Nurse Practitioner will function as a clinical consultant within a multidisciplinary team, managing both acute and chronic pain for hospitalized patients. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside leading cardiologists specializing in advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplantation within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary academic environment. The APP will provide comprehensive inpatient management of patients with advanced cardiovascular disease, including acute and chronic heart failure, ventricular assist devices (VADs), heart transplant candidates and recipients, and patients requiring temporary mechanical circulatory support such as Impella, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). In collaboration with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and ancillary team members, the APP will play an integral role in delivering exceptional, evidence-based care to a complex and critically ill patient population. About this Job: General Summary of Position The incumbent in this position functions as a consultant practitioner and educator for patients staff and physicians concerning problems with inpatients or outpatients with ostomies fistulas/draining wounds pressure wounds and incontinence care. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University hospital's philosophy policies procedures and standards. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Provides consultation to patients staff and physicians relating to preoperative postoperative and routine care of ostomies fistulas/draining wounds pressure wounds and incontinence care. Provides preoperative counseling to the patient/family direct care to patients for ostomy skin and incontinence problems and outpatient followup and care as needed. Assesses the need for selects methodologies strategies content resources and conducts/implements patient education and staff training programs. Determines and evaluates ostomy skin and incontinent care products to be stocked for Hospital use. Participates in research and other educational programs/projects relevant to the area of specialty and/or profession as requested. Generates reports patient records and course documentation according to departmental guidelines. Maintains and develops knowledge base and skills in the area of wound ostomy and continence therapy. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures; attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested. Develops strategies to market and maximize utilization of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse. Performs other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.
