About this Job: Pulmonary Sleep Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA)- MedStar Montgomery Medical Center Our advanced practice providers work collaboratively with physicians to provide integrated, high-quality care at all locations. As one of the largest medical groups in the country, MedStar Health APPs work with medical, surgical, and specialty providers to provide patient-centered care. We currently have a need for a Pulmonary Sleep Medicine APP. Position Summary The APP will be working with a team of 2 Physicians in this role. The role will involve a combination of both inpatient and outpatient care. A formal shadowing/training period of 3 to 6 months will be provided to providers without prior pulmonary experience Inpatient The APP will work alongside the attending physician on the pulmonary service at our community hospital. This involves: Evaluating patients on the pulmonary consult service. This involves doing initial history/physical consultations and follow-up progress notes. Establishing appropriate medical diagnoses, ordering tests, and recommending treatment. Collaborating with all involved care teams, including other consultants. Co-ordination of inpatient to outpatient pulmonary care. Assisting the attending physician with procedures such as chest ultrasound, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, pleuro-evac management, administration of intrapleural thrombolytics, bronchoscopy/EBUS, pleurX catheter management and teaching. Outpatient The outpatient clinic is conveniently located within the main hospital and operates Tuesday through Friday. The APP will work collaboratively with the attending physicians on duty while also managing a portion of their own patient visits independently. APP will be seeing new and follow-up patients. This involves doing initial history/physical consultations and follow-up office notes. APP will most commonly be managing patients with COPD, bronchiectasis, asthma, smoking cessation, lung nodules, lung cancer, lung cancer screening, ILD, pulmonary infections and pleural effusions. There will be focus of independently seeing patient for smoking cessation and lung cancer screening. APP will order outpatient testing which includes PFT, 6MWT, MCT and radiology. About this Job: Unit Highlights Join the exceptional Beacon Award Winning Nursing team on MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Solid Organ Transplant & Hepatology Intermediate Care Unit (S42) in the recently opened Verstandig Pavilion, situated on Georgetown University's campus. The cutting-edge Verstandig Pavilion is equipped with all-private inpatient rooms and state-of-the-art medical equipment, ensuring an environment that prioritizes excellence in patient care. The Transplant IMC shares a floor with its own Surgical Transplant Intensive Care Unit (ICU), promoting seamless patient throughput between different acuities. This 28-bed unit has been recognized by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) with a BEACON Award for Excellence through 2026. Clinical Nurses on S42 provide expert care to acutely ill adults that are waiting for or have recently received a solid organ transplant (liver, kidney, pancreas, intestine) or have undergone other hepatobiliary surgeries (TACE, liver resection, Whipple). MedStar Georgetown is one of only six centers in the United States that perform intestinal transplants and averages over 100 liver transplants per year. At MedStar Georgetown we also perform kidney and pancreas transplants and serve patients regionally, nationally, and internationally. Additional medical diagnoses include end-stage renal disease, end-stage liver failure, hepatitis, chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, sepsis, CHF, and GI bleeds. All beds are equipped to provide continuous cardiac and pulse oximetry bedside monitoring, and nurses are essential in managing high-risk medications and performing in-depth discharge teaching. Nurses work with the interdisciplinary team - including physicians, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners - to deliver intense pre- and post-surgical care that is focused on infection prevention and patient education. The nursing team is a highly educated and motivated group of professionals that participate in collaborative governance, achieve certifications, and drive positive patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities As a Clinical Nurse, you will provide skilled, compassionate care to patients and families across a spectrum of needs—from routine to highly complex.
