How you make a difference The LVN Travel supports the delivery of patient care within assigned correctional healthcare settings as part of a traveling team. This role assists with assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care under the supervision of Registered Nurses. The position guides patient teaching and clinical activities based on demonstrated competencies and scope of practice. This role adapts to different clinical environments while supporting safe, compliant, and consistent care delivery. Key Responsibilities Assist with patient assessment, care planning, and implementation of individualized treatment programs under RN supervision. Administer medications, obtain diagnostic tests, and carry out medical plans according to practitioner orders and protocols. Provide clinical care and respond to health emergencies using established procedures, safety techniques, and standard precautions. Document nursing encounters and communicate patient information to healthcare providers and staff. Support daily clinical operations, including controlled substance counts and assisting with procedures as needed. Additional Details Travel LVN opportunities with Wellpath are primarily based in California, with current needs at sites such as Shasta, Placer, San Luis Obispo, and Fresno. Assignments can vary by location, but most shifts are 12-hour days or nights, with some 8-hour options and weekend rotations depending on the site. Candidates must hold an active California nursing license in good standing and have at least three years of nursing experience; correctional experience is preferred but not required. Overall, this role is best suited for nurses who are adaptable, team-oriented, and comfortable stepping into diverse correctional environments to support patient care where it’s needed most. Pay Range: Pay is based on experience. LVN's range from $40-45 per hour and RN's range from: $55-63 per hour Qualifications & Requirements Education Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing Experience One (1) or more years clinic experience required Must be willing and able to travel 100% of the time. How you make a difference Under the direction of the Health Services Administrator, Director of Nursing, or higher licensed medical professional, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) provides skilled nursing care in compliance with state and federal regulations. In the correctional setting, the LVN/LPT assists with patient care by collecting data, performing assessments, and supporting care planning, implementation, and evaluation. Additionally, they guide patient education and activities in line with their competencies and the Nursing Practice Act. Key Responsibilities Collects and documents physical, psychological, and social data of patients, assisting in assessments and treatment planning in accordance with the Nursing Practice Act (NPA). Implements individualized treatment plans and executes clinical interventions as directed by Health Care Practitioners, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Provides direct patient care, including administering medications, obtaining diagnostic tests, assisting in medical procedures, and responding to health emergencies. Ensures accurate clinical documentation, supports program admissions and discharges, and maintains effective communication with healthcare team members regarding patient care. Conducts controlled substance and sharps inventory, maintains compliance with standard precautions, and assists with electronic data input and record management. Qualifications & Requirements Education Graduate from an accredited Nursing or Psychiatric Technician School. Experience One (1) or more years of clinical experience required. Basic knowledge of all medications being dispensed. Correctional setting experience is preferred. Licenses/Certifications Current unrestricted licensure (and must maintain) as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) in the state employed. Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification. Current (and must maintain) Phlebotomy/IV Certification is required or must be obtained within 6 (six) months. How you make a difference The RN Lead oversees the delivery of nursing care in their assigned unit, ensuring adherence to state guidelines and company policies. They supervise and guide nursing and ancillary staff, auditing performance and providing coaching where needed. The role involves reviewing nursing care plans, monitoring patient outcomes, and maintaining high standards of patient teaching and self-care. The RN Lead also coordinates care across departments, ensures cleanliness and order in the unit, and supports orientation and training for new staff. This position requires attendance at institutional meetings and travel as needed, with work performed in a correctional facility setting. Key Responsibilities Directs and supervises nursing staff, ensuring adherence to licensure scope, policies, and procedures.
