NPs may provide care for all patients throughout the hospital as permitted by their certification and licensure. NPs work collaboratively with the patient's physicians, assisting in providing high-quality care, and a well-planned, timely discharge. NPs provide patient-centered care as members of interdisciplinary teams emphasizing evidence-based practice and accepted standards of care. A NP shall document according to the practices included in the Clinical Documentation Initiative (CDI). NPs with Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) documentation working in surgery have the primary responsibility of assisting in surgery. A NP working in surgery must have a collaborative agreement with a surgeon.
