Job Description Under the supervision of the UCSF Department of Surgery & Department of Medicine and guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing Policies, and, Medical Staff Policies, and any unique to inpatient or ambulatory patient services (for those APPs providing services both in the inpatient and ambulatory environments) this Nurse Practitioner (NP) position is assigned to the Berkeley Cancer Outpatient Practice and Infusion Center. This APP position may perform delegated functions as appropriate to their “scope of practice”. In general, the “scope of practice” includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy), routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures. This position will provide outpatient care in approved age groups at UCSF Health settings. The APP has responsibility for the quality of standards of care for a specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the all UCSF medical center locations. UCSF Health requires all Advanced Practice Providers (APP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. Job Description The Adult Medical Transitional unit (30 beds) provides care to a diverse adult patient population with an emphasis on acute and chronic medicine patients. These patients require more frequent interventions (every two hours) and more nuanced nursing assessments. Patients transition from the adult critical care units, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Emergency Department and acute care floors to this unit, depending on their condition and nursing care needs. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrated general knowledge and competence with regard to nursing theories, concepts and practices; medical terminology; anatomy; and physiology. Working knowledge of the healthcare industry, safety precaution policies, best practices regarding patient care and privacy, and changes in local/state/federal regulations. Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people. Time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize patient care, assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and practices to achieve objectives and meet time sensitive activities. Basic knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Outlook). Work independently as well as be part of the team, while accomplishing multiple interventions in an ever-changing environment. Ability to communicate and engage team members, patients and families in a variety of stressful situations. Use existing procedures and critical thinking to identify and solve routine or complex problems. Ensure the privacy of each patient’s protected health information (PHI). Build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives. Prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines. Job Description Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. Preferred Qualifications BSN Two (2) or more years of recent pediatric inpatient Medical Surgical and/or Trauma experience. Licensure/Certifications Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
