Perform point of care testing such as: strep, mono, glucose, influenza, Urine pregnancy, Urinalysis, blood glucose levels. Dispense and document medications and other treatment modalities. Insure sterile technique, instrument cleaning and sterilization, proper use of the autoclave. Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients. Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations and ear irrigations, I & D’s and splinting/ ortho-glass preparation Perform occupational medicine testing such as: urine drug screens, breath alcohol testing, audiogram, and DOT physicals Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA). Ensures equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to manager. Logs laboratory procedures completed. Processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed. Responsible for patient call backs, scheduling physician referrals; specialist’s referrals and pharmacy issues; and patient’s education. Maintains examination rooms, sterilization of equipment and stocks necessary medical supplies. Performs duties to ensure good patient flow. Registration duties: explain to patients' accepted insurances and those out of network and knowledgeable of all pricing. Properly collect and record payments, complete registration screen in a timely manner. Travel to care centers within designated region Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information Cleans and stocks the site with other members of the team Training other team members. Additional job responsibilities may be assigned. 1-2 years previous experience working in a physician practice or clinic setting is preferred. Akron General’s 30-bed 7100 Unit is a high acuity cardiac Telemetry and Medical/Surgical Unit. This fast-paced team cares for patients who require extensive ADL assistance and complex medical attention. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) on the team, you will perform various tasks, ensuring patients receive frequent attention and observation as needed. This is a hands-on role that requires a present, attentive and patient caregiver who is willing to learn new medical technologies and thrive in a fast-paced environment. On this team, you will gain a wide variety of skills you can use in advanced positions or other departments. A caregiver in this position works nights from 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year requirements. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfers or emergencies. Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc. Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height. Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction and removing urinary Foley Catheters. Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner. Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge. Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly. Collect, properly label and transport specimens to proper area. Document patient care in the electronic medical record. Assist in keeping patient rooms in order, report equipment that is out of order, clean equipment and inventory and distribute unit linen and supplies. Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: High School Diploma or GED Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hire period Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) One year of recent acute care experience OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) Physical Requirements: Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
