The responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to the following: Locating patients, obtaining accurate vital signs by visual and auditory measures, triaging patients, assessing patients’ medical condition, and preparing patients for physicals and medical treatment by Physicians and Nurses; Understanding and using the electronic medical record system; Ordering lab, x-ray, and medical supplies as directed; Notifying the Nurse and/or Physician when the patient is ready for exam while communicating symptoms and relaying questions about lab or x-ray needs; Assisting Nurses and Physicians with various forms of patient treatment and care; Handling Physician and Nurse requests with respect and in a timely manner; Performing lab duties as assigned; Performing phlebotomy procedures; Sterilizing and setting up instruments; Receiving and storing supplies; restocking treatment rooms as needed; Reporting to the Charge Nurse before leaving at the end of the shift; Following ancillary guidelines as deemed necessary by the Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, DMS, and Physician; Adhering to established policies and procedures; Maintaining cleanliness of the treatment area and completing biological cleanup in accordance with OSHA guidelines and other maintenance assignments as directed; Washing, drying, folding, and restocking laundry; maintaining the cleanliness of the washing machine and dryer lint trap; Attending staff meetings as scheduled by the Nurse Supervisor or DMS; Operating, using, and maintaining medical and office equipment as trained; Completing assigned checklists and Policy Manager tasks within the assigned shift; Being available to assist as needed, as breaks and mealtimes may be interrupted at any time to provide necessary patient care or to maintain center operations; Fostering teamwork and ensuring a positive and professional atmosphere; Providing positive, warm, and friendly service in all interactions; Understanding and performing all duties as assigned. About this Job: General Summary of Position Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Patient Care Technician (PCT) the Nursing Assistant Apprentice performs delegated patient care activities in consideration with the developmental needs of each patient. Working alongside an RN CNA or PCT the Youth Apprentice participates in the delivery of age-appropriate patient care in a supportive learning environment. These activities may include simple specimen collection (e.g. urine) activities of daily living (ADLs) nutritional support patient mobility vital signs changing beds replenishing room supplies and assisting the healthcare team with specific treatments and/or procedures. The Apprentice in this position may perform all or a combination of the duties described depending upon the assigned work area and the specific needs of the patients and the department. These job functions must be completed under the supervision of an RN CNA or PCT. Maintains the comfort privacy confidentiality and dignity of each patient in the delivery of services. Performs patient observation duty including 1:1 observation and safe application of restraints. Assists in preparing patients to be seen by providers and assists providers and RNs in patient examinations tests and procedures. Rounds on assigned patients based on established standards (e.g. hourly purposeful rounding). Reports actual and potential problems concerning patients/families including changes in the patient's condition to the RN and other care team members as necessary. Initiates emergency interventions as appropriate and assists with CPR when indicated. Responds to questions from patients families and visitors in a prompt courteous and respectful manner referring them to appropriate personnel if necessary. Consistently follows and implements established Policies and Procedures to ensure patient safety. About this Job: (RN) Nursing students slated to graduate in 2027 are encouraged to apply now for our Winter Student Nurse Extern Program This dayshift position will be based on the 32-bed Intermediate Medical Care Unit. As an extern, you will gain experience providing care to a large population of patients with cardiac and medical conditions requiring non-invasive monitoring, and close observation. The unit has an interdisciplinary approach to meet the needs of patients and families. Extern experience gained in this unit can provide a build pathway into critical care and/or a cardiac specialty as you grow into your nursing career.
