Company : Allegheny Health Network Job Description : Post-Anesthesia Care Unit Saint Vincent’s perioperative services unit is a newly renovated, 28 bay pre-operative and post-operative care unit that supports 13 operating rooms and 5 procedural areas. This is a fast-paced critical care unit that works collaboratively with surgeons and anesthesia. While Saint Vincent is not a trauma center, n urses provide specialized care for patients undergoing a variety of surgeries including robotics, orthopedics, cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, neurosurgical, and general surgeries. Nurses typically work staggered daylight hours with occasional evenings, plus on call requirements for nights/weekends. GENERAL OVERVIEW: The Registered Nurse assesses human responses and plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for individuals or families for whom the nurse is responsible. Supervises delegates and evaluates assigned LPN scope of practice as appropriate. Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, evaluate and implement a patient plan of care according to the individual needs of the patient as prescribed by physician, nurse and hospital policy including patient and family. Derives culturally and age appropriate expected outcomes involving the patient, family and other health care providers. Analyzes the health status of the individuals and families comparing the data with the norm, when possible, to determine patient care needs. Assesses patient reports/records change of condition and notifies physician and/or supervisor and intervenes appropriately and documents accordingly. Accepts assignments in areas other than primary unit, and performs duties within individualized competency. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous lifelong learning for self and others. Promotes advancement of the profession through participation in professional organizations. Seeks both formal and independent learning activities using current research findings and other evidence to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge. Participates in systematic peer review and obtains informal feedback regarding one’s own practice from patients, peers, professional colleagues and others. Our patients can have a history of cardiac conditions, chest pain, strokes dizziness, pulmonary embolism, dysrhythmias, electrolyte issues, renal failure, etc. We frequently care for cardiac recovery patients from the Cath Lab and patient who receive implantable AICD/pacemakers, cardiac ablations, and Watchman Devices . About this role The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. What you bring to the table Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. Licenses/Certifications Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment. Must have and maintain current CPR certification. What you will do Provides medical care to inmates, including conducting exams, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds. Maintains accurate and legible progress note documentation in SOAP format and adheres to formulary guidelines. Responds to emergencies and makes logical decisions regarding non-formulary drugs or off-site referrals. Supports existing policies and procedures for admission, transfer, and specialty consultant referrals. Maintains confidentiality and provides input into facility committees as requested.
