About this Job: General Summary of Position Responsible for patient assessment pre and intra procedural care of patients undergoing invasive procedures or sedation in the Department of Radiology. This is accomplished according to an established plan of care under the direction of the Director of Operations and Radiology Nurse Coordinator in charge of Nursing who is a licensed Registered Nurse. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy policies procedures and standards. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Provides pre-procedure telephone instruction and education to patients relating to their procedure. Performs pre-procedure assessment appropriate documentation of assessment pre-procedure preparation of the patient which includes intravenous access review of allergies and laboratory results application of monitoring equipment and site preparation as indicated. Monitoring is performed intra-procedure according to Radiology/Nursing policy to assess vital signs pallor responsiveness level of comfort emotional status; Neuro status and circulation are assessed according to Radiology policy and as indicated by the procedure; provides patient care utilizing the nursing process; information related to changes in patient's condition is relayed accurately and efficiently to the physician. Appropriate care and treatment are implemented; acts as a patient advocate; follows universal precautions. About this Job: Pulmonary Sleep Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA)- MedStar Montgomery Medical Center Our advanced practice providers work collaboratively with physicians to provide integrated, high-quality care at all locations. As one of the largest medical groups in the country, MedStar Health APPs work with medical, surgical, and specialty providers to provide patient-centered care. We currently have a need for a Pulmonary Sleep Medicine APP. Position Summary The APP will be working with a team of 2 Physicians in this role. The role will involve a combination of both inpatient and outpatient care. A formal shadowing/training period of 3 to 6 months will be provided to providers without prior pulmonary experience Inpatient The APP will work alongside the attending physician on the pulmonary service at our community hospital. This involves: Evaluating patients on the pulmonary consult service. This involves doing initial history/physical consultations and follow-up progress notes. Establishing appropriate medical diagnoses, ordering tests, and recommending treatment. Collaborating with all involved care teams, including other consultants. Co-ordination of inpatient to outpatient pulmonary care. Assisting the attending physician with procedures such as chest ultrasound, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, pleuro-evac management, administration of intrapleural thrombolytics, bronchoscopy/EBUS, pleurX catheter management and teaching. Outpatient The outpatient clinic is conveniently located within the main hospital and operates Tuesday through Friday. The APP will work collaboratively with the attending physicians on duty while also managing a portion of their own patient visits independently. APP will be seeing new and follow-up patients. This involves doing initial history/physical consultations and follow-up office notes. APP will most commonly be managing patients with COPD, bronchiectasis, asthma, smoking cessation, lung nodules, lung cancer, lung cancer screening, ILD, pulmonary infections and pleural effusions. There will be focus of independently seeing patient for smoking cessation and lung cancer screening. APP will order outpatient testing which includes PFT, 6MWT, MCT and radiology. Outpatient procedures such as thoracentesis and lung biopsy are done with diagnostic radiology. Daily clinic responsibilities include answering messages from patients/other providers, coordination of care/appointments with clinic staff , medication refills, prior-authorizations, oxygen re-certifications etc. May assist with outpatient bronchoscopy procedures which are done in the OR. About this Job: General Summary of Position The Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Duties may include venipuncture medication and vaccine administration measurement and documentation of vital signs and assisting providers with patient exams and telephone and clerical support. Documents these activities in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR) or other venues based on policy. Collects and processes specimens completes requisitions and documents in logbook or other applicable forms/records. Provides escort for patients and assists with patient discharge activities. Provides chaperoning for patients per policy. Fulfills infection prevention and environmental responsibilities as assigned which many include: Light cleaning during clinic hours and cleaning of equipment. Updates appropriate records of scheduled equipment maintenance and manages drug and medical supply inventories. Provides telephone screening services to gather information from patients determine appropriate disposition and document per established telephone screening protocols. Under onsite provider supervision may insert intravenous catheter for physician initiated IV fluid therapy or administration of intravenous medications. Under direct onsite physician supervision may insert remove and monitor urinary catheter for procedures and prepare and administer oral drugs and injections limited to intradermal subcutaneous and intramuscular. May perform phlebotomy. Utilizes the EMR to propose patient medication refills for provider approval. Completes requisitions for tests (if applicable). Contacts insurance companies for Pre-authorizations for patient medications and specialty referrals including insurance authorization. Floats to other sites/locations within the system as appropriate and performs all duties at multiple sites. Attends scheduled meetings including but not limited to regular staff meetings and training classes for safety infection control OSHA CLIA BLS and others as required. For Cardiology offices only: 6 months experience working in an ambulatory care medical office or equivalent required or Bachelor's degree in exercise physiology/science or related major or successful completion of a cardiac technician course.
