Overview About the Role The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that includes ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self-evaluation, leadership, and research. The APN in the Surgery Practices utilizes critical judgment in the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and the prescribing of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of patients diagnosed with a variety of surgical conditions/diseases. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Collects comprehensive patient health data/history including past and present medical, surgical, family, and social history. Diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient’s status are collected, interpreted, and documented at the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Completes the medication reconciliation process by documenting the current list of medications (including over the counter and nutritional supplements) taken by patient at each visit. Performs and documents an appropriate comprehensive physical assessment of patients which will include a review of systems, evaluation of manifestations and toxicities related to medical conditions and anticoagulation management. In collaboration with the physician, critically analyzes the assessment data/diagnostic tests and determines a diagnosis. In addition, develops a comprehensive plan of care that includes interventions of treatments to attain outcomes. Evaluates patient progress in attaining expected treatment outcomes. Monitors for signs and symptoms related to disease progression/recurrence. Appropriately manages medical and anticoagulation management emergencies according to protocol/policy. Prescribes and/or orders medications. Obtains appropriate consents for surgery and procedures. Ensures completion of all needed pre-operative tests, forms, and documents. Documents assessments, prescribing, plan, modifications to plan, and evaluation of care in the EMR. Qualifications What You’ll Bring Required: Completion of an educational program which is designed and conducted to prepare graduates to practice as an NP/APN with a master’s degree in nursing and eligible for certification by a national certifying body. A current Registered/Professional Nurse license and registration in the State of New Jersey is required. The OR Technician II performs various duties to assist with surgical procedures and related operating room activities. Potential for exposure to anesthesia waste gases, ethylene oxide, harsh disinfectants, sterilizing agents, high steam pressure agents and radiation. How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Key Responsibilities Provides medical care to inmates, including conducting exams, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds. Maintains accurate and legible progress note documentation in SOAP format and adheres to formulary guidelines. Responds to emergencies and makes logical decisions regarding non-formulary drugs or off-site referrals. Supports existing policies and procedures for admission, transfer, and specialty consultant referrals. Maintains confidentiality and provides input into facility committees as requested. Qualifications & Requirements Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. Licenses/Certifications Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment. Must have and maintain current CPR certification. Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Operating Room Technician I position is to be under the direct supervision of the professional nurse. The OR Technician I performs various duties to assist with surgical procedures and related operating room activities. The OR Technician I delivers care as reflected in the Association of Surgical Technologists’ Recommended Standards of Practice in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care. The OR Technician I possesses knowledge of the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tolls and technologist to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures. The OR Technician I demonstrates competency to scrub for minor/major surgical and endoscopic surgical procedures. An Operating Room Technician I is a certified technician. The OR Technician I participates in departmental quality assessment and improvement activities, meets hospital continuing education and certification requirements, participates in student teaching activities, upholds Patient Care Services philosophy and objectives, demonstrates knowledge of Association of Surgical Technologists’ Recommended Standards of Practice, AORN’s Age Specific Competency Statements and demonstrates professional growth and development. Measurement of performance behavior is “as observed by Nurse Manager and/or Educational Specialist according to OR policy and procedure” unlessotherwise indicated. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician Program. Candidates must be eligible to sit for the LCC-ST certifying examination. One (1) year of related experience preferred. Certification as an Operating Room Technician (LCC-ST) plus one (1) year of related experience preferred. Constant walking, bending, stooping and standing for long periods of time. Pushing and pulling of heavy objects such as gurneys, patient beds and OR beds. Must maintain a neat, clean, professional appearance. Must have understanding, patience, and tact in dealing with physicians and fellow workers. Must pay attention to detail. Must have excellent hand-eye coordination. Must be selfmotivated and work in an efficient and effective manner. Must work in air-conditioned environment with temperature of 65-73 degrees and humidity of 45-55%. When assigned to pediatric cases, temperature may be up to 85-90 degrees F. Must wear hospital provided scrub attire while on duty. Potential for cuts, bruises, muscle strains and exposure to contagious disease via and body fluids. Potential for exposure to anesthesia waste gases, ethylene oxide, harsh disinfectants, sterilizing agents, high steam pressure agents and radiation. Willingness to work with employees at various levels of skill, knowledge and abilities. 
Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Nurse Anesthetist (Certified Registered) position is to administeranesthesia and anesthesia-related care in four general categories: (1) pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation; (2) anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence; (3) post-anesthesia care; and (4) perianesthetic and clinical support functions. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Education Program with a Master’s Degree in a related field; or graduation from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education programs prior to January 1998 is required. Candidate must have sufficient sensory capacity to observe the patient and patient monitors. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively in both academic and health care settings. Must show evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in teams and possess demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, and effectively function in the face of uncertainties inherent in clinical practice. Ancillary privileges granted by the University Hospital Medical Staff must be successfully obtained upon hire.
