Job Summary: Provides nursing care to patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse of physician/advanced practice provider. Utilizes observational skills to observe nursing intervention and assists medical staff to insure optimal care within established policies, procedures, and standards. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or provider provides nursing care in accordance with the legal scope of practice and within established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates performance consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan of the organization. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice and treats coworkers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect. Essential Responsibilities: Exhibits excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, providers, and co-workers; shows courtesy, compassion, and respect; conforms to the critical service standards established for the department. Provides therapeutic patient care in accordance with the patients established by physician/advanced practice providers and/or a registered nurse within the scope of practice. Transcribes physician/advanced practice providers orders and directed by policy. Communicates directly with a registered nurse to institute changes in the plan of care; assists with and contributes to the development of a nursing care plan. Administer specified medication appropriately and accurately following the providers order and or standing orders within scope of practice. Executes treatments such as urinary catheterizations, placement of intravenous catheters, bladder irrigations and instillations, suctioning procedures, throat irrigations and enemas, and utilizing equipment as required. Adheres to infection prevention and control policies and procedures. Adheres to high level of disinfectant, point of use, peel packs policies, and procedures. Perform related patient care functions such as taking temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure readings, wound care, may instruct patient in various self-administered treatment or procedures; obtain specimens; assures correct culture collection. Assist physician/advance practice providers or other medical staff personnel with examinations and treatments by selecting and passing instruments, providing support and restraint to the patient, draping, and other assistance as directed or required. Within scope observes and documents patients condition by gathering signs, symptoms, and reactions to therapy, to identify unexpected and/or significant findings, initiates appropriate emergency procedures as necessary, and reports unusual conditions to the registered nurse/advanced practice providers as established by policy and procedure in a timely manner. May volunteer to start and maintain intravenous flow rate with Certifications, notifies registered nurse/advanced practice/physician of any problems. May discontinue IV therapy except intra-cath and central venous lines. May volunteer to start perform venipuncture/blood withdrawal with Certifications. Collects and processes specimens per policy, procedures, guidelines, and protocols. Provides non-compoicated teaching following the registered nurse/advanced practice provider/physician plan for education. Report any identified learning needs and discharge barriers. Ensures cleanliness of nursing module/station, patient exam room, and proper functioning of patient care equipment by visual inspection, routine testing, and other related methods. Provides a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff. Utilizes effective verbal and non-verbal forms of communication. Performs in other departments or modules to which assigned as required by the nursing/department administration to provide and maintain the established standards of care and safety. Performs departmental back-office workflows including but not limited to proactive office encounter, successfully closing care gaps, patient outreach, access and/or nurse visits. Participates in staff meetings, and in-service programs. Assists in ordering and distribution/stocking of module/department supplies and equipment. Accepts verbal and telephone orders from the physician/advanced practice providers. Supports patient communication and message management including but not limited to patient emails, call center messages, and all other back-office messages. Administers pulse oximetry, humidification therapy, spirometer, oxygen therapy via mask or nasal cannula, oral, nasal, and trach suctioning, and sputum induction. Documents care in Health Connect per policy, procedures, guidelines, and protocols. Performs other related duties as assigned and required, including orientation of new employees. Assists in coordinating the discharge process. Performs all job functions within license certification and scope of practice. ROLE: The PICC Line Nurse will assess and perform an overall evaluation of the patient. Responsible for placement of the line and ensure the line placement is correctly inserted. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Ability to work independently. Communicates effectively and appropriately to patient, family and other health care providers. Completes required paperwork. Provides patient education about the PICC (or midline) insertion and the care and maintenance issues post insertion Participates in performance improvement activities by providing information about each PICC (or midline) insertion to the facility staff as requested Demonstrates ability to assess patient past and current medical history including laboratory values, venous and muscle skeletal status that is pertinent in qualifying a patient as a candidate for PICC placement. Assures physicians order on chart for PICC placement. Assures Informed Consent has been obtained. Performs time out; correct patient identifier prior to initiating PICC procedure. Demonstrates ability to perform PICC placement maintaining aseptic technique utilizing measures that prevent patient discomfort and trauma related to procedure. Demonstrates high level skills in critical thinking and assessment related to vascular access devices. Maintains clinical competency by inserting a minimum of six PICCs/year and by performing one observed successful PICC insertion Documents insertion of PICC (or midline), confirmation of placement by radiologist for PICC, and medication administration, in accordance with company policy Provides facility nurses/staff instructions about the patient's PICC (or midline) care and maintenance Assist Territory Managers in meetings for clinical support as needed Assist Director of Vascular Access in facility rounds to meet with and support Directors of Nursing, Administration and Nursing staff Is responsible for the fiscal viability of the PICC program by entering the charges for the insertion, proper usage of equipment, and productive use of time Maintains patient confidentiality. Job Summary: Under the medical supervision of a physicianAnesthesiologist, administers general and regional anesthesia for all types of surgical, obstetrical and other procedures that require anesthesia services, to patients of various age groups including: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric in accordance with hospital and departmental standards of care. Such intervention may include, but not be limited to: airway management; maintenance of fluid balance; homeostasis; monitoring; response to emergencies related to airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation; and management of patients on ventilators. Essential Responsibilities: Administers anesthesia to all age groups. Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. Complies with organizational rules, policies and procedures (i.e. TJC, Title 22, Regional and Department requirements). Evaluates patients pre-operatively by interviewing and examining patient; reviews chart for relevant information. In collaboration with MD selects anesthetic for patient based on pre-operative examination. Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of each age group served: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Selects anesthetic for patient based on pre-operative examination. Evaluates patients response to pre-medication. Communicates with surgeon and physician anesthesiologist regarding special concerns of patient. Checks anesthesia equipment daily and between cases to assure safe operating condition. Prepares drugs for administration. Administers anesthesia in accordance with delineated clinical privileges and any conditions or restrictions imposed thereof. Monitors the patient intraoperatively. Evaluates operative and post-operative condition of patient and takes necessary action to maintain stability. Evaluates the patients postoperatively (within 24 hours). Maintains an accurate accounting of controlled substances in accordance with departmental guidelines. Maintains equipment and supplies as outlined in department policies and procedures. Complies with organizational rules, policies and procedures (i.e. TJC, CAC Title 22, Regional and Department requirements). Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations when interacting with public, patients, staff and other personnel. May perform other duties within scope of licensure/certification as required. Note: Must be able to work within an Anesthesia team model, work with MDAs, CRNAs and Anesthesia TECHs.
