The Johns Hopkins Hospital Cardiac Care Unit is a 12-bed intensive care unit specializing in the care of patients with complex and acute cardiac conditions. The unit cares for patients experiencing acute myocardial infarction and related complications such as cardiogenic shock, post-infarction angina, and congestive heart failure. In addition, the team manages critically ill patients with severe cardiomyopathies, valvular heart disease, and life-threatening arrhythmias. Qualifications: Active Maryland or Compact RN license is required at time of hire BLS CPR required 2 year recent high acuity ICU experience preferred; proficient in RN 1, 2, and RN 3 competencies. Selects, prepares, or uses equipment, monitors, supplies, or drugs for the administration of anesthetics. Performs pre-anesthetic screenings including physical evaluations and patient interviews, and documents results. Monitors patients’ responses including skin color, pupil dilation, pulse, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, ventilation, or urine output using invasive and noninvasive techniques. Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administering emergency fluids or drugs, or using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques. Performs or manages regional anesthetic techniques such as local, spinal, epidural, caudal, nerve blocks and intravenous blocks. Once they have established proficiency. Collaborates with the attending physician anesthesiologist Develops anesthesia care plans. Obtains informed consent from patients for anesthesia procedures Assesses patients’ medical histories to predict anesthesia response.
