University Correctional Healthcare (UCHC) is seeking a Part Time Mental Health Staff Nurse (RN) for the Northern State Prison in Newark, New Jersey. The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus. Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment. Frequently functions guided by nursing protocols. Functions as a team leader as assigned. Demonstrates competency in assessment and identification of the psychological and physical health of adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) all population groups and their personal strengths. Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems. Duties include: Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate-patient including adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) within the framework established by the correctional system. Uses psychiatric standards of nursing practice and classification of mental disorders: to develop inmate treatment plans with specific goals and interventions delineating nursing actions unique to each inmate’s needs. Implements nursing actions that promote, maintain or restore physical and mental health of all age groups. Evaluates inmate responses in collaboration with multi-disciplinary care providers to ensure quality inmate care.
