Major Responsibilities  Interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and records information on patients' charts.  Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.  Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment.  Hands instruments and materials to doctor as directed.  Cleans and sterilizes instruments.  Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials.  Gives injections or treatments, and performs routine laboratory tests.  Keys data into computer to maintain office and patient records.  Assist doctors with charting  Chart auditing, CPT and ICD-9 review  Venipunctures, EKG's, Vital Signs, Blood draws, and Injections  Prep patients for examination and treatment, and assist during minor office procedures  Prepare exam and treatment rooms (instrument preparation and sterilization, prescription refills, faxing, and filing) Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications  Medical Assistant experience  CPT I certification  Experience performing EKGs, blood draws, vital signs and IM injections.  Ability to work well under pressure and be quick on your feet  Neat and professional appearance  Effective written and verbal communication skills  Vocational certificate in Medical Assistant Working Conditions Center-Based. Nursing Process: Develops and/or contributes to the individualized plan of care that reflects assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the outcomes of that plan. Ensures plan shows multidisciplinary planning, consultation, and education. Ensures plan is reflective of admission or outpatient database, on-going findings, age appropriate care, cultural specific needs, and appropriate acuity. Ensures plan is discussed with patient, family/significant others, and completed in a timely manner. Monitors the patients progress based on the plan. Revises plan on ongoing basis based on patient condition and evaluation of progress. Ensures care meets standards of practice. Ensures effective development and completion of discharge plan including discharge barriers and patient/family education. Ensures that patient clearly understands discharge instructions. In outpatient, identify barriers and needs for patient/family education that will facilitate the outpatient medical management plan. Ensures patient safety related but not limited to, medications and procedures utilizing the five rights; patient falls; decubitus prevention and prevention of nosocomial infections. Ensures optimal pain control and patient comfort; identifies and discusses patient anxieties, fears or concerns regarding patient condition, treatment or discharge. Ensures that patient understands medication purpose, side effects, and administration instructions in the hospital as well as at the time of discharge . Documentation: Charting is accurate, legible, dated, and timed. Documentation reflects nursing process and interventions and evaluations taken. Utilizes computer systems effectively and efficiently for optimal patient care. Clinical Outcomes: Discusses patient findings and progress toward outcomes with physicians and other members of the health care team. Demonstrates competencies during the probationary period and ongoing completion by departmental competency validation. Make comprehensive nursing decisions based on interpretation of data, assessments, and evaluations of patient outcomes. Participates in departmental performance improvement activities, i.e., planning, measuring/monitoring, assessing, and improving. Workplace Safety: Adherence to LMP Workplace Safety principles and practices. Float Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Compton, CA (Mid LA Region)

Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking highly skilled full-time Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, or Certified Nurse Midwives with great communication skills, clinical skills and a strong emphasis on excellent customer service to see our increasing, diverse patient population within our Compton Health Center and Mid LA Region floating to our Inglewood and Dorothy Hecht centers (plus, additional sites within LA County as needed). The full-time Clinician will join the Patient Services team and provide quality patient care including examinations, diagnosis, treatment, education, counseling, and serve as a medical resource for other licensed and non-licensed staff. Perform physical exams for both males and females with special emphasis on the reproductive system, including breast examination, pelvic examination, male genital exam, cancer screening tests, diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections, Mid-Life Services counseling, examinations and other types of more specialized procedures as indicated by medical policy. About this position: Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers, and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPLA locations, and by all PPLA employees. Supporting these critical services is an essential job duty, and a fundamental responsibility of all employees and contractors. Comply with agency medical protocols (unless Physician consult sought) at all times. Perform family planning services with intent to train on medication abortion (MAB) and procedural abortion (PAB) services, physical exams for all genders with special emphasis on the reproductive system, including breast examination, pelvic examination, male genital exams, cancer screening tests, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, Mid-Life Services counseling, and other types of more specialized procedures as indicated by Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) Medical Standards & Guidelines (MS&Gs). Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic studies as indicated and permitted by PPLA MS&Gs. Perform examination and assessment of post-abortion clients including pelvic exams and labs when needed. Ability to interpret colposcopy results and/or follow-up plans for patients. Maintain PPLA standards of productivity. Minimum of 3 visits per hour and 18 work units. Recognize and treat minor deviations from the norm using PPLA MS&Gs and consulting with the Program Director, Charge Clinician, Senior Director of Clinical Services, Physician, Medical Director and/or Chief Medical Officer as needed. Label, dispense, and prescribe all FDA approved birth control methods, including emergency contraception. Placement and removal of long-acting reversible contraception such as IUDs and implants. Perform venipuncture, injections, and IV insertions. Proficient in microscopy and interpretation of results. Complete and maintain Rh, Beta and medication abortion (MAB) follow-up logs. Train or precept licensed health care professionals as needed. Act as a medical resource to and provide oversight of non-licensed staff. The following are responsibilities of Planned Parenthood clinicians as outlined in the medical standards and guidelines: Secures a complete health history, including gynecologic, contraceptive, medical, surgical, sexual, family health, and psychosocial, performs a general screening physical examination, obtains and/or interprets appropriate diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests. Collaborate with other community agencies in providing comprehensive care when necessary.
