The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care along the care continuum, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance operational efficiency. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements. Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred. Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license. Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies. 
The ED Registered Nurse functions under the supervision and direction of the ED Manager, ED Coordinator, and Physicians in order to assist in providing and assessing direct emergency and outpatient care. The ED RN provides professional nursing care to medically ill and trauma patients of various criticalities. The AMH ED RN uses the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) triage tool to prioritize care for patients presenting to the ED. The ED RN coordinates care planning with other disciplines to ensure that patient needs are met, participates in inpatient and family education, provides an environment conducive to patient safety and comfort, seeks educational resources, and creates a learning experience to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skill for his or her continuing competence in nursing practice and individual professional growth.
