About the Role The Med-Surg RN is responsible provide care for primarily adult patients before and after surgical procedures; they also attend to those who are being treated with pharmaceuticals to manage illness. Due to the broad range of medical conditions Med/Surge Nurses will encounter, they must be well-versed in a large variety of health conditions. POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Med/Surge Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Med/Surge Nurses include (but are not limited to): Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse. Educates patients on surgical procedures. Records patients’ medical information and vital signs. Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients and interprets and records electronic displays. Initiates corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptomatology. Provides bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients. Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs. Changes dressings, inserts catheters, starts IVs. Prepares equipment and aids physician during examination and treatment of patient. Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol. Participates in discharge planning. Utilizes time management skills. Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms. Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting. Float among various clinical services, were qualified and competent. All other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred. Current nursing license, in good standing with the State licensing board. Minimum of one (1) year Med/Surge experience but will consider a new grad. Current and active CPR certification. Why Join Legent Health? About the Role The RN Charge Nurse will be responsible for managing all aspects of nursing responsibility during each shift, from processing patients in and out to delegating nursing assignments and monitoring medication administration. POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage the nursing care for all patients in the OR Unit during your shift. Recognize changes in patients’ condition and respond appropriately. Supervise as they complete their assigned tasks and point out any changes or improvements that need to be made. Detect any issues that could result in injuries or other difficulties for patients or staff members. Works with staff members who need assistance in decision making to improve their performance. Provides input to the nursing staff evaluations as requested by the Director of In-Patient Services. Shares and demonstrates current information/techniques as related to nursing practice.
