The RN Staff Nurse assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care based on the standards of care and the policies of LCMC Health. The RN delegates to professional and non-professional personnel involved in the delivery of care. ACLS preferred, ACLS within 6 months of hire required GENERAL DUTIES Provides peripheral IV insertions in all inpatient and outpatient areas of hospital. Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others. Utilizes the nursing process to develop and deliver a plan of care for assigned patients. Performs the priority technical procedures required by the area, department, and/or assignment safely, effectively, efficiently, and legally. Establishes and/or revises priorities for patient care activities based on the following: acuity of the need, resource availability, customer/patient preference/request, and other departmental needs. Coordinates and delegates activities related to patient care management in an appropriate manner and supervises the activities of other unit personnel providing care to assigned patients. Communicates using appropriate channels, proper hand-off, and escalation of information, data, and significant events of problems to appropriate persons, including current patient condition, changes in the patient’s condition, laboratory/diagnostic data, intake & output, nutrition needs, assessment findings and changes, changes of shift report, patient/family/physician team member complaints, defective equipment, etc to ensure continuity of care. Keeps patients informed and gives periodic updates as appropriate and positively contributes to the organizational goal of patient throughput. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to improve patient care. Seeks supervision, consultation, and assistance when unable to perform effectively or safely independently. Uses interpersonal-communication strategies with individuals to achieve desirable/acceptable outcomes/responses and the perception of satisfaction by those involved. Uses internal and/or external resources to resolve and/or prevent problems that cannot be managed independently. Actively promotes and supports LCMC Health’s performance improvement initiatives by consistently implementing infection control practices, maintaining the environment of care consistent with Joint Commission requirements, and participating in quality improvement activities and review/audit processes. Continuously displays a positive attitude that contributes to patient satisfaction and utilizes the service recovery process to address patients’ concern or complaints. Recognizes customer needs and begins to solve problems as soon as they are apparent. Contributes to the team by providing assistance to others without being asked. Summary The Surgical Scrub Tech’s responsibilities include preparing and assisting the surgeon during procedures using aseptic technique, maintaining supplies and instruments, providing quick turnover for subsequent procedures while assisting the nursing staff in providing quality patient care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assists in providing optimal patient care through appropriate planning and implementation of surgical procedures. Reviews assigned cases the prior workday to ensure they have all necessary supplies and equipment. Practices and maintains aseptic technique during operative procedures and while preparing sterile field. Utilizes surgeon’s preference cards in providing necessary supplies for each case. Anticipates surgeon’s needs and watches for any break in aseptic technique. Hands off all tissue removed from patients from the sterile field and identifies to the circulating nurse. Communicates needed updates to preference cards. Assists with orientation of new staff as needed. Assists with the turnover of the rooms in between cases. Assists with transferring patient to recovery room bed. Takes all instruments to decontamination room for cleaning and reprocessing. Assists with proper cleaning and disinfection of the OR. Checks OR board for assignment and sets up next case. Secures appropriate supplies and equipment for the next assigned case. Performs duties ensuring patient safety. Counts sponges, laps, needles, and instruments as indicated with circulating nurse per Policy and Procedure. Actively participates in the Time Out. Receives all drugs, and solutions needed for surgery from circulating nurse, checking all labels, expiration dates, and percentage. When cautery is used, ensures tip is away from patient when not in use. Clearly labels all medications on field. Communicates with OR Director/OR Supervisor regarding issues or operational conflicts in the department and participates in problem solving. Maintains employee safety. Uses a neutral receptacle for transferring of sharps to and from surgeon - does not allow hand to hand contact. Wears eye protection during procedure. Uses PPE in decontamination of instruments. Maintains supplies and instruments. Accurately and completely picks supplies needed for scheduled cases. Rotates stock and checks for expiration dates. Properly handles instrumentation to maintain function and life of the instrument. Effectively functions in Central Sterile. Participates in hospital wide inventory. Self-directed in completing assignments. Puts supplies up throughout the day and at end of day. Performs competently in emergency or stressful situations. Remains calm in emergency situations. Palliative Medicine NP or PA - Full-time The Palliative Medicine Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant, provides advanced health care to individuals, families or groups as an advanced or expert clinician through both inpatient consults and outpatient clinic visits. Prevent and treat wounds. Monitor and execute Joint Commission infection control and environment of care requirements. Collaborate and consult with nursing supervisor Collaborates to identify and meet the overall needs of patient care or when unable to complete assignments or perform tasks promptly, effectively, or safely.
