The Cath Lab RN works efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, demonstrating sound clinical judgment, creativity, initiative, and strong problem-solving skills. Responsibilities Clinical & Procedural Support Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all equipment used within the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Maintains knowledge of sterile supplies and applies proper sterile techniques for all procedures. Assists physicians in the scrub role using sterile technique to prevent cross-contamination, including setting up trays and preparing and positioning patients. Functions in the circulator role by positioning patients to obtain digital images and administering medications and/or contrast media (if certified) under physician supervision and in accordance with departmental policies. Supports physicians in the recorder/monitor role by documenting procedures, balancing calibration, operating physiologic recording equipment, and calculating and reporting patient data gathered during procedures. Patient Care & Safety Reviews patient charts to verify appropriate information and identify potential risk indicators prior to procedures. Maintains the patient holding area and assists with transporting patients safely throughout the department. Provides radiation protection for patients, staff, and self by adhering to established safety standards. Recognizes emergency situations and initiates appropriate responses, including code activation, first aid, or CPR as needed. Prepares and administers medications and contrast media under the supervision of the Cardiologist. Medication & Equipment Management Maintains controlled drug inventory in compliance with established controlled substance policies.
