Overview POSITION SUMMARY: The Primary Charge Nurse assists in overseeing and directing the business of the unit within the shift to meet the needs of the patients and care team. Responsible for patient flow and throughput, ensuring processes and resources are optimized to meet patient needs. Serves as a role model for customer service, patient care standards, and professional relationships. Determines work priorities, prepares daily work assignments, and serves as a resource person for unit personnel in resolving operational and patient care problems. Works at the highest level of licensure by providing quality competent care, following best practice standards, working to achieve care goals and quality outcomes, and following standards of care set by the state boards of nursing. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: BSN or must be obtained within 3 years of date of hire into role Experience: 2 years of experience on the unit or similar unit. Licensure/ Certification: Current Registered Nurse licensure by the State Board of Nursing in appropriate state (Illinois or Michigan). BLS and ACLS, PALS, or other certification as required by unit. Other Skills/ Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented. Overview Prepares records, processes orders and provides patient care in the hospital setting, supporting the nursing philosophy. Answers the telephone and call lights in an appropriate and timely manner, providing information or relaying messages to patients and staff. Directs visitors to patients' rooms. Maintains medical records of current patients. Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking, and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies. Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures according to CNA job duties and expectations Documents care provided according to standards. Maintains a clean work and patient environment. Floats to various units based on identified needs. Participates in department and unit performance improvement activities. Verifies accuracy of charges entered Facilitates a welcoming environment assisting with visitor wayfinding. Assemble patient folders and charts for unit Raul and responder/Vocera/versus set up for new staff EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Completion of a CNA program. Advanced CNA program preferred. Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days. Overview Provides leadership and operational oversight for nursing units and hospital departments during assigned shifts, ensuring safe staffing, quality patient care, crisis response, and smooth hospital operations. Serves as a key resource for staff, physicians, patients, and families while supporting performance improvement, service recovery, staff development, and emergency response coordination across the organization. Provides leadership for other hospital departments in the absence of department directors during disaster situations. Reviews staffing needs for next 24 hours and makes necessary staffing adjustments for all nursing units. Organizes, directs and collaborates with personnel on assigned shifts. Description This position works 24 hours per week with an on-call commitment 1-2 days per two- week pay period, plus a weekend commitment every 5th-6th weekend. On-call requires a 30-minute response time to the McHenry Hospital. Start time rotates between 6am and 8am with an 8, 9 or 10-hour shift.
