Supports and promotes philosophy, objectives and standards of the nursing department. § Assists the DON in coordinating facility clinical interdisciplinary team and supervising interdisciplinary process. § Reviews facility change of condition report daily and supervises/coordinates nursing services and care plan interventions. § Reviews resident medical records as directed to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and company policies and procedures. § Ensures corrective action has been completed on medical record audits and consultant reports. § Provides clinical expertise to facilitate and support the nursing process in resident interventions. § Assists in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of residents' total regimen of care. § Keeps abreast of current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards, and makes recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to DON. Interprets department policies and procedures to residents, visitors, family members, etc., as necessary. Provides input in formulation and evaluation of standards of care, and in development of department objectives. Maintains reference material necessary for complying with current standards and regulations, and that will provide assistance in maintaining quality service. § May assist DON in developing a cohesive nursing team by leading, motivating and supporting staff in daily operation. Coaches, counsels, evaluates and disciplines personnel and provides input on staffing needs. § Ensures that personnel follow established safety precautions and regulations when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies, including the use of mechanical lifts when lifting or moving heavy individuals or objects. § Makes written or oral reports and recommendations to DON concerning operation of department and in response to concerns or complaints. § Complies with all company and departmental policies and procedures. § Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary. § Acts as the DON in the absence of same. § Reports the following in accordance with established facility procedures and regulatory standards: accidents and incidents; resident grievances, complaints, allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property; occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals; concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance including but not limited to hazardous conditions and equipment. § Ensures adherence to state and federal regulations and company policies and procedures; HIPAA confidentiality standards of resident and facility information; Infection Control, Universal Precautions, OSHA and safety standards; established safety precautions and regulations in the performance of tasks and the use of equipment and supplies. § Demonstrates knowledge of facility and departmental quality improvement activities and/or participates in quality improvement meetings. § Recommends any equipment and supplies needed for the department as well as any departmental improvements. § Confers with department personnel to solicit input on improving service and addressing problem areas. § Assists in development of department budget and ensures expenses are within budgeted parameters. May maintain records of expenses and submit reports to DON as required. § Develops, participates in and/or leads on-the-job training, in-service education and orientation programs; attends OSHA and CDC in-service training programs for hazardous communication, TB management, and blood borne pathogens standard; serves on various committees as required by existing regulations or as appointed by DON. § Works with facility consultants as necessary and implements recommended changes as required. Ensures outside services are properly supervised. § Is accessible after hours for emergency purposes. § Performs other related duties as required. Education and Work Experience: § 3-5 years’ experience providing direct care to multiple patients/residents preferred; previous experience in Skilled Nursing environment desirable; previous supervisory experience preferred § Nursing degree from accredited college preferred; graduation from approved RN program required. § Must possess current, unencumbered license to practice as an RN in California. § Must possess current valid CPR certification.
