Responsibilities* The Pediatric Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit (PCTU) is a 20 bed tertiary care center receiving patients from state, regional, national and international referrals. PCTU specializes in the medical and surgical care of infants, children, adolescents and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. Our goal is the provision of exemplary nursing care embracing a philosophy of family centered care empowering families to participate in the decision making and care of their children. The Pediatric Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit nurse cares for patients in a technology intensive environment including ECMO, CRRT and VAD's. They are required to perform complex physiologic patient assessments in a high intensity environment for high acuity patients with rapidly changing status. Our patients undergo the most progressive surgical and catheterization interventions. Our nursing staff practice in close partnership with the cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and fellows providing individual support and education to families and patients throughout their intensive care unit admission. PCTU will be expanding by 9 beds in the spring of 2027 Required Qualifications* Current Michigan Registered Nurse License. 12-24 months of current PICU, NICU or Childrens or adult ED RN experience PALS certification is required (or within six (6) months of date of hire) or MUST be completed prior to end of probationary period . Responsibilities* The Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the University of Michigan is a 59 bed Level IV neonatal center serving our region, state and beyond. We remain one of the state's leading referral centers for premature newborns and infants with complex medical problems, complex surgical problems or unusual anomalies, need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, and whole body or selective head cooling for hypothermic neuroprotection. About 80% of the Newborn ICU admissions are inborn and 20% are transported from our referral region and state. We offer 24/7 neonatal transport services with Newborn ICU RNs as members of the transport team. Our specialized nursing team members provide quality nursing care to newborns from the acute phase of illness through recovery. A family-centered approach to care is practiced in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. We provide individualized support and education to families during hospitalization and in preparation for discharge. We empower families to participate in decision making for and in the care of their child. The Medicine Pulmonary service cares for several pulmonary population subsets including patients that are waiting for or have received a pulmonary transplant, adult patients with cystic fibrosis, post-operative interventional pulmonary patients, and serves as the primary inpatient service for adult patients requiring chronic invasive and non-invasive ventilation who are admitted for a variety of medical issues. The Medicine Pulmonary team is well established within the institution and is comprised of advanced practice providers that deliver high-quality and evidence-based care under the supervision of a pulmonary critical care attending. Responsibilities* Duties Will Include But Are Not Limited To Perform initial assessments of ventilator/moderate care patients and general care patients. Perform detailed history and physical, formulate initial assessment and plan, and present patient cases and any pertinent data to medical staff. Required Qualifications* Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan. Two (2) years recent, within the last three (3) years, RN circulating and scrubbing experience within at least two of the following adult surgical services: orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, plastics, or ophthalmology. Ability to work with a non-responsive patient population. Call commitment with 30 minute response time. NOTE: All applicants selected to interview will complete a one day observation in the UH OR (unpaid).
