Inpatient Trauma & Trauma/Surgical ICU Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Position Overview: Inpatient Trauma/Trauma & Surgical ICU Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers direct patient care consistent with the APP’s education, experience, and certification, in collaboration with the attending Trauma Surgery physicians. This includes a fast-paced and dynamic environment, you will have the opportunity to provide advanced, evidence-based care to critically ill patients . The APP will be expected to have a thorough u nderstanding of trauma care and management, including advanced skills in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute and critically ill patients. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with Trauma attending physicians, general surgery residents, and APPs to complete daily rounds on the trauma and surgical floors and in the intensive care unit (ICU). Collecting data and interpreting laboratory and imaging results in developing and document assessments and care plans. Working collaboratively with surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams, the APP manages complex postoperative and medically fragile patients across a wide range of surgical specialties, including trauma, acute care surgery, transplant, vascular, and general surgery. Perform bedside procedures for both surgical and non-surgical patients Work with the team to complete timely documentation and carry out care plans effectively. Partner with Trauma APPs, Trauma attendings, surgical residents, nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapies, social work and case management to develop disposition plans with a multidisciplinary team approach. Respond to trauma cases in the resuscitation bay, perform trauma survey assessments, and stabilize high-acuity patients in accordance with Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) guidelines. Promote consumer, family, and community health through preventative health care actions and patient advocacy. Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited master’s degree program for: Physician Assistant (PA) Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or equivalent grandfathered certification. National certification through NCCPA, ANCC, or AACN. Licensure: PA: License through the State Medical Board of Ohio. NP: License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and Registered Nurse (RN) through the Ohio Board of Nursing. Eligibility for federal DEA registration. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or obtained within 90 days of hire. Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification obtained within 180 days of hire. Additional advanced life support certifications (as applicable to practice area) obtained within 180 days of hire. Knowledge of sterile techniques and aseptic practices. Meet requirements for clinical privileges in the specialty/department with The MetroHealth System and apply for privileges at the time of hire. Maintain a standard care arrangement or supervision agreement as required by Ohio law. Preferred Qualifications (preferred but not required for otherwise qualified candidates): One year of Advanced Practice Provider experience Experience in trauma surgery or critical care settings Proficiency in procedural skills such as central and arterial line placement, ventilator management, chest tube placement, laceration repair and FAST exams Preference will be given to qualified candidates with an interest in working consistent night shifts. Candidates who commit to a straight night-shift schedule will be eligible for an additional night-shift incentive. Work Environment The APP will work at Cleveland’s most experienced Level 1 Trauma Center at MetroHealth’s primary facility in Cleveland. The position includes day shift coverage, with potential for night shift coverage based on staffing needs. Holiday and weekend coverage is required. Trauma & Surgical ICU Nocturnist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Position Overview: The Trauma & Surgical ICU Nocturnist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers advanced, evidence-based care to critically ill and injured patients during consistent night shifts at The MetroHealth System’s Level I Adult Trauma Center. Working collaboratively with Trauma/Critical Care attending physicians, surgical residents, nursing, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, the APP provides overnight management of critically ill surgical patients, responds to changes in clinical condition, performs bedside procedures, and supports the ongoing care of patients within the Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care Unit. This position is designed for an APP interested in a dedicated nocturnist role and requires strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, procedural, communication, and decision-making skills. The APP should have a thorough understanding of trauma and surgical critical care, including the assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and management of acute and critically ill patients. Key Responsibilities Provide overnight management of critically ill patients in the Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Collaborate with Trauma/Critical Care attending physicians, surgical residents, APPs, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized plans of care. Evaluate new and evolving clinical concerns and respond to acute changes in patient condition throughout the night. Collect and interpret clinical data, including laboratory results, imaging, hemodynamic information, and other diagnostic studies, to develop and document assessments and treatment plans.
