RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, develops, directs, implements, and monitors orientation and education of all facility personnel. Plans, coordinates, and conducts Certified Nursing Assistant Program. Develops instructional materials to assist new personnel in becoming oriented to facility operational techniques. Schedules, with Human Resources and Administration, facility tours to acquaint new personnel with overall operation and interrelationship of facility services. Determines effectiveness of orientation materials and procedures through practice sessions. Sets up demonstrations of nursing service policies and equipment to acquaint facility staff with new equipment to make them more familiar with established policies and equipment. Plans, coordinates, and conducts regular and special inservice training sessions for facility staff to acquaint them with new procedures and policies and current trends and developments in resident/patient care techniques and employee performance, and to provide opportunity for individual members to develop to their full potential. Keep current on the latest developments by attending professional seminars, institutes, and reading professional journals. Assists Department Heads, Managers, Supervisors and Charge Nurses in planning and implementing staff development programs on their units. Keeps bulletin/informational boards current by listing information on programs, meetings, seminars, etc. and promotes appropriate staff attendance at these meetings. Plans special training sessions for staff members as needed and/or required. Participates in writing and maintaining policies, procedures, and forms. Makes suggestions for changes or clarification in policies and procedures. Completes Education Department reports and maintains Education Department records and documentation (including attendance records) in accordance with Federal and State Regulations and standards for Long Term Care Provides staff with supervision as needed. Works flexible hours as necessary to provide staff development for all staff members. Meets periodically with Department Heads to assess and plan staff education needs. May participate in staff selection process, including interviewing Serves as a member of departmental committees, creating a strong and visible role model for a team approach to problem resolutions and furture planning May fulfill the role of shift supervisor /staffing person if necessary. Develops an educational plan for a NATP program. REQUIREMENTS: NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license require Experience as Charge Nurse, Supervisor or Nurse Educator. Experience/ability to make independent decisions ; ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality education and nursing care. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to the health care field. Helps residents/patients with personal needs, such as eating, elimination, bathing, grooming. Ensures residents/patients are physically comfortable and assist them with mobility and activity needs. Provides physical and emotional support to residents/patients. Attends to residents/patients’ psychological comfort and social needs, such as by answering the call bell promptly, providing privacy, assisting with communication, and showing respect. Ensures a clean and safe environment for residents/patients. Assists the nurse with assessment and care planning, such as by taking vital signs, observing residents/ patients, and reporting and recording observations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES: By following the Care Plan that has been completed by the Nursing Supervisor, the Home Health Aide provides assistance with the following: • Maintain a healthy, safe environment. Providing nutritional and environmental support. • Assist with personal hygiene, toileting, dressing, walking and feeding the client. • Position the client when instructed to do so. • Assist with certain treatments and therapy as ordered by the physician and approved by the nursing supervisor. • Remind the client to take medications. • Assist with payment of bills ONLY when authorized to do so and it is documented on the assignment sheet. • Run errands when authorized to do so. Documentation on the Aide Charting Sheet daily. • Report any important information or changes in the client's condition to the agency and/or the nursing supervisor when necessary. • Use of medical supplies and equipment when appropriate. • Emotional support and the development of a trusting relationship between the aide and the client. • Encouragement of client independence.
