Baylor College of Medicine and Department Summary: Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital are currently seeking a Physician Assistant/Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. This position offers unique experience in our community pediatric intensive care unit, for an individual who wishes to pursue a career in pediatric intensive care. The section of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics is a multidisciplinary team of attending critical care physicians, advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners/physician assistants), committed to the care of patients suffering from a life-threatening illness or injury. Currently, the critical care intensive care units in the community have capacity for 14 patients. The NP/PA Instructor will work alongside Faculty colleagues, advanced practice providers, and occasionally pediatric residents in the care of children with chronic and acute illness requiring intensive care in the PICU. The woodlands PICU opened in April 2017 and provides assisted ventilation or other advanced support, such as oscillatory ventilation, nitric oxide administration or cardiovascular pressor support. The community ICU also provides care for children who require long-term technology support, those with residual PICU morbidities requiring transition to home, and the management of children who require more intensive medical support. Location: The primary clinical site is at Texas Children's Woodlands Campus, an extension of the largest pediatric hospital in the United States, and an affiliated hospital of Baylor College of Medicine. Role responsibilities include but are not limited to: Day-to-day care of children with acute and chronic illness requiring critical care. Active role in education of trainees when present. Job Summary The Nurse Clinician II (NCII) has knowledge and skills necessary to meet standards for professional practice specified in Texas Nursing Practice Act and by HCHD Nursing Service. The practice patterns of competent generalists are characterized by the application of standards, principles, and algorithms to clinical situations. The NCII independently and safely manages patients with problems common to patients in his/her assigned clinical area; recognizes when he/she needs assistance and seeks appropriate resources. Clinical Nurse - Pediatrics ICU - Nights

UT MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children's Hospital are partnering to create the Kinder Children's Cancer Center, a joint program focused on advancing pediatric cancer care. As this partnership progresses, pediatric patient care and operations will transition over time. The timing of this transition is subject to change and a definitive transition date has not yet been established. For the foreseeable future, this position will support the Department of Pediatrics and provide services to our pediatric patient population. As the transition to the Kinder Children's Cancer Center progresses, the responsibilities and work assignment associated with this position are expected to change. MD Anderson's current plan is to retain employees hired into these positions and transition them to other areas of the institution as pediatric operations evolve.
