Nurses develop core competencies through lecture, discussion and learner-paced modules as well as a precepted clinical experience, in: Initiating and maintaining IV Therapy Treating patients presenting with minor/non-emergent to acute/life threatening situations. Recognition and treatment of dysrhythmias. Recognition and treatment of hemodynamic instability and compromised respiratory status. Management and stabilization of the trauma patient. Administering medications specific to Emergency Department. Clinical competency in use of equipment specific to the Emergency Department. Regulatory requirements to ensure patient safety when transferring patient’s intra and inter facility (EMTALA). Orientation areas include Critical Care , Medical/ Surgical, OB and the Emergency Department. RN Qualifications and Requirements for the ED Nurse Bridge to Practice : Internal candidates and external applicants must graduate from an approved nursing program with a AAS degree required, BSN preferred. Must be able to meet the essential functions contained in the ED RN Job Description with or without a reasonable accommodation. Internal RN applicants must meet the Internal Transfer Guidelines and be in good standing, meaning no active disciplines of written warning or greater within their employee file during the 6 months prior to application. Completed HR Talent Assessment for all candidates. GPA of 3.25 or higher preferred. **Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis for a TBD start date. ** POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education: Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred. On hire, a valid Basic Life Support course completion card, issued by an organization approved by the Hospital, must be presented. BLS renewal not required once ACLS is obtained. Within three months of assignment, employee will attend a hospital-sponsored Crisis Training Program and will attend at least annually for the duration of employment. Participates when appropriate in Root Cause Analysis and/or other efforts to reduce the risk of medical error and/or patient or staff harm. Training: Clinical nurses are accountable for completing their annual / required mandatory training within certain time frames All clinical nurses must have BLS and this training must be kept current. In certain clinical areas additional AHA training may be required. If you are transferring to one of these areas you must have the appropriate training prior to beginning the position.
