Specialists work under the direction of unit leadership, intensivist services, perfusion services, and in collaboration with bedside staff to ensure that the patient on ECMO has adequate perfusion, corrects for proper acid-base balance, and provides for hemodynamic stability within ordered parameters. Nursing ECMO Specialists work in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and communicate with physicians, perfusionists and other members of the healthcare team to interpret, adjust and complete treatment specific care for the ECMO patient. ECMO specialists are expected to perform required technical skills with efficiency, accuracy and safety while anticipating, troubleshooting, and managing crises and emergency situations according to policy and procedure. The ideal candidate would be comfortable working with a supervising physician in an inpatient and outpatient setting. In addition, the ideal candidate should have a good surgical foundation as well as first assist and pediatric experience. General Summary Patient management and surgical first assist for pediatric general surgery patients. Collaborate with supervising physician, pediatric surgery team and staff to provide consistent patient care in the inpatient hospital and outpatient clinic settings. Travel to outreach clinics to see patients independently or with physician supervision. Perform and document patient histories and physical exams. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests, such as routine laboratory, X-ray, Ultrasound etc. Monitors the patient's course of treatment and implement care plans. Participate in daily inpatient rounds. Evaluate consultations in the emergency department and outpatient office. With appropriate training and supervision, perform bedside procedures such as newborn circumcision, extra digit excision, drainage of abscess, local wound care, ostomy and gastrostomy tube care.
