General Summary: Under the direction of the Office Manager, the Medical Assistant performs administrative and clinical duties to care for patients in an ambulatory setting. Administrative duties include maintaining medical records, handling patient calls and completing forms. Clinical duties include measuring and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination and administering medications as directed by physician or advance practice providers. The Medical Assistant plays an integral role in the care team model. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: High school degree (or GED) required. Current Certification as Medical Assistant required. The RN assigns and directs the work of related staff. Requirements: Michigan Registered Professional Nurse licensure required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider—required. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider and Pediatric Advanced life Support (PALS) provider required within 1 year of hire for Preop, PACU and Operating Room RNs. Competence in basic cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation required, will train. Previous ambulatory surgical experience preferred.
