IMC RN Position Summary The IMC RN is responsible for managing high acuity patients who are often too critical for a medical/surgical floor but may not require an ICU level of care. The IMC team is skilled in caring for populations such as sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, post open-heart procedures, continuous cardiac infusions, and those requiring acute continuous non-invasive ventilation (i.e. BiPAP/CPAP). These patients require continuous cardiac and respiratory monitoring and the IMC RN will be prepared to intervene quickly to any changes in hemodynamics or respiratory demands. The IMC RN is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating an individualized plan of care for their patients while serving as an advocate and educator to patients and their families. The Intermediate Care unit (IMC) is a fast-paced, teamwork driven environment providing high acuity care to critically ill patients. The primary patients admitted to PCU are those who need less care than standard intensive care but more than what is available on telemetry or med-surg units.The PCU RN is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating a plan of patient care utilizing ANA Standards and the Nursing Process. The RN acts as a patient advocate. The RN provides support, information and direct care and utilizes equipment and technology skillfully and is technically competent in nursing procedures. The Registered Nurse educates patients and families on significant self-care issues. The inventory, distribution/delivery of medications may be required. PCU RN Position Requirements Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Registered Nurse. Must hold a license in the state of permanent residency American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 12 months of employment NIH Stroke Scale Certification will be obtained during orientation PCU RN Work Schedule May be assigned to day, evening, or night shifts or a combination per departmental policy. Scheduled off at least three holidays per year. Required to work weekends per unit need. Expected to work overtime on occasion.
