Description Provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Mentors and assists less experienced staff members. Responsibilities 1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Assists physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information. 2. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Completing forms and requisitions as needed, managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. These responsibilities may be carried out using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary. 3. Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician. 4. Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable. 5. Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies. 6. Maintains logging system as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart or others as needed. 7. Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy. 8. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and in compliance with legal regulations. 9. Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances. 10. Assists in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms). 11. May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary. 12. May be required to perform proficient phlebotomy duties. 13. May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information. 14. May maintain, adjust and confirm patient office schedule. 15. May check and verify & update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources. 16. May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary 17. Provides training and mentoring to Level I MA staff. 18. Directs and assigns MA schedules and work flow to meet the needs of the practice and applicable to patient volumes. 19. Oversee the successful delivery of clinical office support to meet the needs of each physician. 20. Performs other duties and tasks as required. Qualifications High School Diploma/GED with completion of Training Certificate from an approved Medical Assistant certificate course. Certified Medical Assistant preferred. 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant For in-house candidates, promotion to Level II is contingent upon consistent E or S annual performance appraisals. Perform a complete newborn physical examination and assessment of gestational age, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings. Conduct parent interviews and take family history. Order appropriate laboratory tests and procedures. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary and appropriate for the care of the patient (from ELBW to LOA babies). Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 (T&RC) Plans, directs, and supervises nursing services on an assigned unit, including direct supervision of Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) and other staff. Directs the development and implementation of nursing care plans on a unit. Provides individual care, and functions as an educator and nursing services expert. Assesses work methods of nursing staff and provides feedback to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care delivered. Coordinates medical and nursing care needs with other health care providers and departments. Ensures proper functioning of equipment and unit compliance with safety and environmental standards. Monitors nursing care quality standards, and implements corrective actions as needed. Attends and participates in medical committees to represent nursing staff needs and the individual population, and participates in writing of care standards. Identifies staff training needs and collaborates with unit educators to develop and implement educational programs. Develops and implements orientation plans for new employees and participates in staffing decisions. QUALIFICATIONS Graduate Nurse (T&RC) Open Competitive: possession of limited permit as a graduate nurse in New York State; or eligible to enter examination for licensure as a registered professional nurse in New York State.
