The Infectious Diseases department provides expert clinical consultations to prevent, diagnose, and treat infections in both adult and pediatric cancer patients. Our mission is to provide specialized expertise in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infections in cancer patients through high quality clinical consultation, infection control and research programs. The ideal Advanced Practice Provider will be a compassionate, detail-oriented advanced practice provider who thrives in a collaborative, academic medical environment and is committed to delivering high-quality infectious disease care to adult and pediatric oncology patients. This individual demonstrates strong clinical judgment and growing independence in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex infections across the cancer care continuum, while working under the supervision of an attending physician and in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements. This position offers unique experience in our community pediatric intensive care unit, for an individual who wishes to pursue a career in pediatric intensive care. The section of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics is a multidisciplinary team of attending critical care physicians, advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners/physician assistants), committed to the care of patients suffering from a life-threatening illness or injury. Currently, the critical care intensive care units in the community have capacity for 14 patients. The NP/PA Instructor will work alongside Faculty colleagues, advanced practice providers, and occasionally pediatric residents in the care of children with chronic and acute illness requiring intensive care in the PICU. The woodlands PICU opened in April 2017 and provides assisted ventilation or other advanced support, such as oscillatory ventilation, nitric oxide administration or cardiovascular pressor support. The community ICU also provides care for children who require long-term technology support, those with residual PICU morbidities requiring transition to home, and the management of children who require more intensive medical support.
