Description Medical Assistant I-Multispecialty-Brooklyn, NY-Full Time-Day-Offsite The Offsite Medical Assistant I Provides clinical office support to Physicians & Surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Responsibilities Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring, dressing, collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Assists physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes,referral information, etc. Completing forms and requisitions as needed, managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. These responsibilities may be carried out using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary. Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician. Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable. Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies. Maintains logging system as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart, point of care testing or others as needed. Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complies with legal regulations. Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances. Assists in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms). May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary. May be required to perform proficient phlebotomy duties. May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information. May maintain, adjust and confirm patient office schedule. May check and verify and update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources. May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary. Mentors less experienced Medical Assistant staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Graduate of a PCT program w/ at least 6 months hospital experience OR CNA graduate plus course completion in EKG & Phlebotomy and PCT certification eligible plus at least 6 months hospital experience, OR PCT Certification through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) w/ at least 6 months hospital experience. BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification. (Issued by the American Heart Association-AHA) OR Heartsaver CPR/AED certification (Issued by the American Heart Association-AHA) is required upon entry to the position Must complete PCT online program within 3 months of hire. Senior Nursing Attendant Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent Required. GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Registered Nurse (RN), Pre-Op & PACU Phases I & II, reports to the Surgical Services Director. This RN will administer diligent care to surgical patients in the pre and post-operative settings using monitoring, assessment, intervention, and continuous reassessment. The PACU Phase I RN will provide care for post-operative patients recovering from general, regional, and local anesthesia The PACU Phase II RN will provide discharge care and instructions to the patient and their care givers, prior to discharge from the unit. Performs perioperative RN responsibilities as directed by the Nursing Director. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS 1. Demonstrated proficiency in the RN Pre and Post-Ops roles 2. Description The Offsite Licensed Practical Nurse II works as part of the healthcare team by assisting in planning and implementing care interventions while promoting high quality patient care in a professional, efficient and safe manner, ensuring the patient flow. Works collaboratively with nursing and other disciplines in the development and implementation of clinical studies within the area of expertise. Uses evidence-based health care literature to advise and support appropriate practice changes within the designated service. Participates in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols for purposes of quality and performance improvement. Serves as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and other health professionals. Maintains current expertise in area of practice. Promotes own professional growth and development in clinical and managerial role. Considers needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all patient care. Evaluates treatment and health care plans for effectiveness and modifies per clinical standards and practice protocols. Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws as outlined in the delineation of privileges. Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol. Prescribes in-patient and discharge medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Works collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), and other disciplines to identify, develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care that maximizes individual patient/family preference and enhances quality, access, and cost-effective outcomes. Formulates the plan of care, along with the attending physician, patient and family, based on expected goals of care and length of stay. Orders customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending MD or with the collaborating physician. Performs complete health history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment of patients within the designated practice or clinical unit. Functions as a respectful member of the health care team. Participates in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies. Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of responsibilities. Facilitates the continuity of care across the continuum of services, e.g. home care, other facilities, appointments with MDs etc. Provides consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff responsible for the patients care in the hospital setting. Works collaboratively with nursing leadership to ensure timely communications with the nursing staff. Works collaboratively with the attending physician to maintain timely and appropriate communication with family members, housestaff, other disciplines and ancillary services. Participates in the development and revision of interdisciplinary and nursing standards, patient and family education materials as relevant to area of practice and expertise. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team including the attending physician to develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care for a group of patients and ensure communication with family members. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have: Licensure: Current registration as Professional Nurse in New York and Registration as Nurse Practitioner in New York. Education: Master's Degree in Nursing. Certification required (as soon as feasible following graduation from NP graduate program) by ANCC or Board Certification from other specialty organization that certifies Nurse Practitioners in a clinical area of practice. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association.. Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS, Nurse Practitioner-NYS, Basic Life Support Cert Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) through the American Heart Association or Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics may be required based on your selected privileges.
