Job Title: School Nurse Location: School Based Pay Grade: Nurse Salary Scale Work Calendar: 10 Month 200 Day Employee FLSA Status: Exempt GENERAL PURPOSE Under the supervision of the building principals and Coordinator of Health Services, this position provides health services and leadership in establishing a complete and effective program of school health. MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide Health Services to Students Interprets state and federal and School Board Policy and regulations regarding health requirements and immunization documentation for all new students. Establishes and maintains a school health record for each student based on best practice, SCPS Health Services protocols and State Standards for Accreditation for Public Schools in Virginia. Maintains and adequately supervises the school health clinic. Provides nursing intervention for acute illness and injury of students and staff and supports student's health needs for returning to class whenever possible and approves early dismissals, as appropriate. Supervises and documents medication/treatment administration in accordance with the Virginia Department of Education guidelines by a licensed health care provider and SCPS Health Services protocols. Administers individual screening of vision, hearing, and scoliosis; and evaluate refer, and follow-ups as required by Virginia school law and School Board regulations. Makes home visits in conjunction with other support staff to assist with health-related absentee problems when appropriate. Protects the health of students and staff by controlling disease outbreak and spread of communicable diseases through enforcement of health practices, health department protocols and school policies. Provide Training and Support to Administration and Staff Collaborates with educational staff and parents in assessing the health needs of students to prepare and implement health service care plans needed and provide chronic disease case management. Participates on School Crisis Team, 504 and Student Support Committee, as needed, in planning, prevention and implementation. Completes necessary forms and procedures for Blood borne Pathogen Exposure incidents and situations related to Workers Compensation as outlined in Exposure Control Plan and School Board Policy and Regulations. Implements training for staff members of workplace safety guidelines and Bloodborne Pathogens as required through OSHA and related to Workers' Compensation. Provide first aid and referrals for staff for Workers' Compensation claims. Provides staff education and training related to medication administration, diabetes, asthma, allergy, anaphylaxis recognition and treatment, according to SCPS School Board policy and Code of Virginia. Maintains a liaison with health care providers and other community agencies to support student health, wellness and independence of personal health care. Provides emergency assessment, triage, and treatment as first responder for staff and students while coordinating care through EMT services and school administration. Acts as a resource upon request by teacher, principal, student and or parent. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a graduate of an accredited program of registered nursing and hold a current license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia Two (2) years successful nursing experience. Pediatric and community health experience preferred Valid Virginia Driver's License Current certification in Frist Aid, CPR, and AED required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge English grammar and usage Child growth and development Currently mandated safety regulations such as OSHA, etc. Related state regulations Skills Adhere to Guidelines of Confidentiality as outlined in Federal and State laws and county policies and procedures. Unit Summary: This unit is a 21-bed unit that provides leading- edge, collaborative, and comprehensive care for adult patients with a variety of blood and bone marrow disorders. As a part of the VCU Massey Cancer Center, the largest adult stem cell and bone marrow transplant provider in all of Virginia, we offer the latest FDA- approved CAR-T immunotherapies, clinical trials testing new and promising forms of cellular immunotherapies, as well as all forms of stem cell and bone marrow transplantation. We provide both outpatient and inpatient services in the same facility, and provide a suite of support services that range from helping minimize symptoms and side effects to coping with the cognitive, emotional, and psychological effects of cancer. A typical shift for our nurse includes a team of mixed registered nurses, clinical coordinators, and Patient Care Techs (PCTs) caring for adult patients. Acute Care Pediatrics 12 is a 24-bed pediatric unit. The staff care for patients from a variety of medical specialties including, but not limited to nephrology, neurology, cardiology, pulmonology, gastrologic, and endocrinology. The unit also sees surgical specialties such as trauma, plastics, and general care surgery patients. The unit consists of a combination of general care and step-down patients. Special to ACP 12 are the hematology/oncology, epilepsy monitoring and bone marrow transplant populations. Additionally, some patients are monitored by telemetry in our general care and step-down environments. The Nurse Clinician demonstrates a high level of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the complex patients and their responses to actual or potential health problems. This role assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. The Nurse Clinician provides direction, education, leadership and accountability for program development, implementation and evaluation in area of responsibility. This role includes professional development and empowerment of staff as well as management of resources to promote desired outcomes with attention to quality, efficiency and cost. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated APP to join our team within the Department of Otolaryngology. This role provides an excellent balance of inpatient consult care and outpatient and procedural clinic responsibilities. The PA will help coordinate the inpatient consult service, participate in daily rounds, and manage new and follow‑up consults, while also supporting and independently operating in high‑volume ENT procedural clinics primarily for post ED and post surgery complex patients.
