Perform venipuncture, including preparing necessary supplies for blood drawing, verifying patient identification and observing blood drawing procedures and protocol at all times. Make appropriate copies of EKG tracing if needed. Distribute original tracings and copies according to established hospital policy. Instruct patient on the collection of laboratory specimens , i.e. urinalysis, cultures, 24 hour specimen collection. Be responsible for the labeling of these specimens. Assist in the maintenance and care of departmental equipment for preventative maintenance. Maintain electrocardiogram and laboratory supplies, re-order and re-stock areas as needed Assist in the maintenance of the medical records. Prepare and maintain relevant department records and statistics. Coordinate referrals to specialists. Coordinate medical clearance for all pre-surgical patients. Maintain a monthly log of surgical patients. Maintain a monthly log for pap smears and mammography. Assist with preparation of lab slips, specialty appointment and other patient paperwork if required.
