SUMMARY Provides direct nursing care to clients during the surgical abortion procedure and for recovery care for post-surgical abortion period. The RN works in partnership with the Health Center Team to provide quality patient care and excellent customer service. Participates as a member of a team providing confidential, quality patient services, allowing patients to maintain a sense of dignity, trust and safety. Follows PPFA and the organization’s protocols, policies and procedures and any center-specific policies and procedures. Ensures productivity expectations, customer service and compliance standards are maintained. Abides by the organization’s mission in performing job duties. Clinic Working days: Monday - Friday Clinic Hours (Varies): 7am (earliest) -7pm (Latest) Part-time Openings GENERAL PRIORITIES Procedure Room Provide excellent customer service. Ensures that any client who requests an abortion is aware that she may change her decision at any time Assist physician and patient during abortion procedures Ensure patient electronic records/charts and logs are completed Notifies physician of any medical problem May perform blood draws, TB testing, injections, including vaccines, basic ultrasonography Dispenses medications to the client as directed by the abortion physician. DIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES Recovery Room • Monitor patients in recovery room. • Maintains client statistics to be given to on-call staff. • Maintains accurate inventory of all drugs that are dispensed in the recovery room. • Completes appropriate cleanup of the recovery room at the end of each clinic General Responsibilities • Practices nursing within the scope of a registered nurse and in accordance with agency protocols and policies. • Provides education in a non-judgmental manner to patients by providing support and information on reproductive and sexual health issues. • Consults with organization physician when deviates from standard medical protocols. • Complies with all applicable state, OSHA, CLIA standards, infection control, safety, and DEA regulations. • Understands and complies with policies regarding patient rights. • Participate in health center staff meetings, trainings, quality improvement initiatives and emergency drills. • Creates and maintains an environment of dignity and safety for patient sensitivity and privacy. • Provides direct nursing care to clients. Provides on-call and health center coverage as scheduled. • Ensures that all emergency equipment is available and in proper working order prior to each clinic. • Understands and complies with all pharmacy policies. • Provides health education for reproductive health issues as needed. • Takes personal responsibility to remain informed about family planning methods, abortion issues and technology. JOB PURPOSE : The Registered Nurse serves as part of the team providing quality healthcare to El Rio Health patients. In this role, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care, both clinical and non-clinical within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse under the Arizona State Board of Nursing and policies and procedures set by El Rio Health. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process, collaborating with the physicians and interdisciplinary team members and provides physical and psychological support to patients and their families. The Registered Nurse works under the general supervision and review of the El Rio Health Center Manager or Associate Health Center Manager at the clinic where assigned. The Registered Nurse consults with a supervisor for resolution or direction for any work problems involving departures from the scope of practice, standard policies, interpretations, or procedures. Essential Job Functions: Triages walk-in patients to determine the need for healthcare services and the appropriate disposition of the patient using appropriate assessments guidelines for adult and pediatric patients. Provides any first aid needed until the provider arrives. Maintains emergency supplies and mediations and checks them monthly for expiration dates. Replaces any outdated medication or equipment. Maintains weekly and monthly logs of inspection and testing of emergency equipment ensuring and maintaining compliance with all Joint Commission standards. In partnership with Health Center Manager and Associate Health Center Manager, conducts periodic audits on charts prepared by nursing staff to clarify accuracy. Assigns duties and assist with coordination of nursing services in the assigned unit. Responsibilities Implements and monitors patient care plans. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders. Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team. Assessment - An RN uses a systematic, dynamic way to collect and analyze data about a patient, the first step in delivering nursing care. Assessment includes not only physiological data, but also psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and life-style factors as well. Initial assessment Re-assessment Focused assessment based on patient condition, setting and population Problem Identification - Problem identification is the nurse’s clinical judgment about the patient’s response to actual or potential health conditions or needs. Planning and Outcomes – Based on the assessment and problem identification, the nurse sets measurable and achievable short- and long-range goals in collaboration with the patient and family. Assessment data, problem identification, and goals are written in the patient’s care plan so that nurses as well as other health professionals caring for the patient have access to it. Establishing daily goals with the patient and family Formulating a plan of care Transition or Discharge planning Implementation – Nursing care is implemented according to the care plan, so continuity of care for the patient during hospitalization and in preparation for discharge is assured. Care is documented in the patient’s record. Ensures patient safety Medication administration Provision of ordered treatments Patient/Family education Provision of nursing care -Documentation in healthcare record Evaluation – Both the patient’s status and the effectiveness of the nursing care must be continuously evaluated, and the care plan modified as needed. Care Coordination – Actions initiated by nurses with patients, families, and/or members of their healthcare team to manage and correct the sequence, timing, and/or effectiveness of patient care from admission to discharge. Delegation Supervision Prioritization Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Continuing education requirements as defined within the CARE program. Experience: One (1) year as an RN. Licensure/Certifications: Valid current Arizona Nursing License or compact state license and ability to become Arizona Licensed in 30 days. Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association and others as required by individual department as noted in Attachment A.
