Nurse Practitioner

Overview Plans, directs, and evaluates patient health care. Provides advanced practice nurse support to patients, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations. May work in both inpatient and outpatient situations, depending on area assigned, and can perform independently or as part of a treatment team. Performs the task of educating patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments. They may also conduct physicals, order tests and serve as a patient's primary healthcare provider. Some nurse practitioners are also able to prescribe medications. Responsibilities Function independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill perioperative patients. Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs. Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities. Implement interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability, including but not limited to serving in the first assisting role. Assist with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations. Monitor the effectiveness of interventions. Facilitate the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals. Facilitate staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools. Performs other duties as requested. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing, master’s degree preferred. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program. Experience: Minimum three (3) years nursing experience required. At least one (1) year as nurse practitioner experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Epic Software preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills. Current competency and knowledge of standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice. Demonstrated excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization. Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position. Physical Requirements: Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. Position Summary To fulfill the needs of patients in a variety of age groups, their family members, and the community by performing varied patient care tasks and functions in accordance with licensure, certification, training, and regulatory requirements.
