Newport News, Virginia Labor Pool Nights 7pm-7am Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and the Director and is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients. The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial and cultural diversity. Responsible for supervising and delegating non-professional personnel working directly with him/her to ensure optimum patient care. Works under the direction of leadership and a multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health system and facility goals and strategic plans. What you will do Demonstrates ability to assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population. Demonstrates nursing unit specific competencies and equipment training, see checklists. Partners with patients and their family to develop, implement and evaluate a plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient. Incorporates evidence based standards of practice and collaborates with interdisciplinary team in care coordination. Facilitates safe patient transition to next level of care as part of plan of care. Demonstrates sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to ensure patient receives consistent, competent and ethical care. Focuses on quality outcomes of patient when addressing service needs to ensure evidence based quality care of patient. Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations. Modifies education method to ensure patient/family understanding. Assumes responsibility to coordinate and deliver individualized patient education and discharge specific education to family/caregivers. Evaluates for comprehension and documents. Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements. Delegates and prioritizes tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence to meet the patient's care needs. Recognizes and responds to emergency situations. CNA / EMT-B / MA / Currently Enrolled in a Nursing Program - Med Surg - Full Time - Days

Williamsburg, Virginia Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED, (Preferred) Experience 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting (Preferred) Licenses and Certification: Must meet at least one of the below requirements: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Virginia Department of Health Professions Upon Hire (Required) or EMT-B (Basic), Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Upon Hire (Required) or Medical Assistant Program Graduate Upon Hire (Required) or Currently enrolled in LPN or RN Nursing diploma or degree program with 80 hours completed Upon Hire (Required) BLS required upon hire Overview Works under the supervision of Registered Nurse/LPN and Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of hospital patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified treatments. In addition, this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure. Promotes and maintains safe work environment for staff as well as our customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives. What you will do Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection. Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes. Maintains clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas. Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN/LPN. This may include the following procedures dependent upon unit/facility competency requirements such as enemas, vital signs, ice application, compresses, perineal care, rectal tube, sitz bath, unsterile sites, strain urine for stones, specimen collection, etc. Demonstrates the ability to follow the plan of care that assures patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care, within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support for the patient’s value system. Provides care consistent with both verbal and/or written instructions. Demonstrates competent understanding of assigned plans of care within appropriate scope of practice and responsibilities as directed by the RN/LPN to include accurately completing all required documentation. Participates positively in training and support of all team members, volunteers and students as needed.
