Adult ED Holds- The environment on our unit is friendly, focused on teamwork, and flexible to accommodate our patients’ needs. We care for adult patients 18 or older who are being treated for a variety of medical diagnoses. Our unit is unique because we have a blended emergency department and inpatient stepdown care delivery model. Our patient population encompasses a variety of diagnoses and levels of care. One of the perks of working on my unit is the rare opportunity to gain knowledge and expertise in emergency and inpatient care. Provide the ability to cross train with the main emergency department. Shift This is a full-time night shift position. The shift is 7:00pm - 7:00am, three times per week for a total of 36 hours per week, including some weekends. Light Housekeeping Caregivers may be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and organized client environment. Non-Medical Health Support Helping Hearts provides non-medical personal support. Caregivers must remain within their authorized role and follow the client’s approved care plan. Medication Reminders Medication support is limited to the responsibilities authorized in the client’s approved non-medical care plan. Caregivers may: Provide scheduled reminders. Assist with an approved prefilled medication planner. Place approved medications in a cup when directed. Remind the client to self-administer their medication. Document reminders and client responses. Report refusals, missed doses or other concerns. Caregivers must not independently administer medication, change medication instructions or provide medical advice outside their authorized scope. Transportation When required and authorized, caregivers may: Transport clients to appointments. Assist with approved errands. Transport clients to social activities. Help clients enter and exit the vehicle. Secure mobility equipment appropriately. Follow all client-specific transportation instructions. Maintain a clean, safe and insured vehicle. Report any transportation concern immediately. Caregivers may only transport clients when the assignment has been approved and all transportation requirements have been satisfied. Night and Overnight Shift Expectations Caregivers working night or overnight assignments must remain fully awake, alert and attentive throughout the entire shift. Nighttime responsibilities may include: Completing scheduled safety checks Monitoring the client’s condition Assisting with toileting and incontinence care Repositioning the client Providing medication reminders when authorized Responding immediately when the client needs assistance Completing approved nighttime housekeeping responsibilities Maintaining a clean and safe environment Preparing the client’s environment for the morning routine Documenting care and observations in real time Sleeping, napping, dozing, lying down to rest or closing your eyes for extended periods is strictly prohibited, even when the client is sleeping. Failure to report for an accepted shift, leaving a client without authorization or failing to follow safety procedures may result in removal from the assignment or additional corrective action.
