Description Under the supervision of a licensed physician responsible for development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of clinical programs and services for designated patient populations. Provides evaluation and direct patient care that promotes achievement/maintenance of optimal health. Responsibilities Provides general patient care under the direction of or in consultation with the Chief of the Division. Evaluates patient’s physical, emotional, and psychosocial status, and makes recommendations for treatment or referral as appropriate. Independently provides nursing services to patient/family/significant other, including education, counseling, medication management, and general health care instructions. Prepare and help Attending Physician performing FNA of thyroid nodule. Give appointment to patient for FNA and coordinate the timing with the Ultrasound Department. Participates in meetings with the physicians and other team members to discuss progress and/or management of specific patients. Performs other duties pursuant to clinical responsibility, such as arranging follow-up for patients, obtaining informed consent from patient, recalling patients for further evaluation and treatment, escorting patients, when necessary, to other areas of the hospital, etc. Informs patients of necessary post-discharge instructions as required. Makes appropriate entries in patients’ charts. Demonstrates professional involvement by attending and participating in seminars, workshops and courses as presenter or author; keeping abreast of current literature and trends in practice; considers ethical issues in professional nursing practice. Attend and help the Clinical Diabetes Educators in support group sessions for Diabetes patients. Work with Clinical Research Coordinator on research protocols, entering data and follows of patients participating in clinical studies. Qualifications -Job requires completion of NYS-approved program for training of registered professional nurses and an accredited program in Nurse Practitioner in order to gain knowledge of anatomy, physiology and clinical patient care. Master’s Degree and certification in specialty area are preferred. -Two years progressive job related experience specific to area of responsibility. -Registration required with New York State as Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. -Certification by ANCC in specialty area. -High level of analytical ability required to effectively and expeditiously diagnose, monitor and deliver care to patients under the direction of physician. -Interpersonal skills sufficient in order to effectively interact with patients to gain trust and cooperation. Interacts with various internal hospital medical, administrative and professional staff in the course of routine clinical duties.
