Manages internal and external medical records to ensure that accurate and complete data is available for patient appointments. Administers routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment. These are medications that can only be administered by certified medical assistants or medical assistants who have completed a formal accredited training program. Performs routine laboratory tests such as urinalysis and blood work, does electrocardiograms and x-ray work as needed. Identifies vaccination needs for specific patient populations. Performs related clerical tasks including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing information to other departments. Assists in obtaining insurance prior authorizations. Our Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNPs) perform direct patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic services within our Walk-in Clinics. UI Walk-in Clinics provide care to try to save our patients a trip to the emergency room. We’re open evenings, weekends, and even some holidays. Our clinics are responsible to assess a wide variety of patients from newborn to geriatric and ensures patient care standards are met and provide access to additional care options not normally found at your traditional walk-in clinic, including X-rays, IV fluids, and stitches.
