Our Observation Unit patient population consists of outpatient/observation patients admitted from the Emergency Department, for a short stay for 24 hours or less. We care for a variety of diagnoses including chest pain, asthma, syncope, anemia, back pain, dvt, heart failure and many others. The Registered Nurse role offers the opportunity for meaningful impact while supporting patients, serving the community and collaborating with a specialized team. The Registered Nurse Will: Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide expected standards of care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational spiritual, safety, and age-appropriate considerations of patients. Assumes responsibility for the patient's plan of care and is held accountable for decisions specific to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care. Provides care directly to patients and in collaboration with other healthcare team members. Maintains a current level of knowledge and skill with technical procedures as defined by the nursing specialty organization, complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies, and is currently licensed in the state of Massachusetts as a registered nurse. Perform mandated screenings in vision, hearing, scoliosis, and height and weight as deemed appropriate by state and city departments of public health Documents pertinent information in student records in accordance with Standards of Practice and safeguards documentation utilizing HIPPA and FERPA regulations Conducts home visits to initiate or follow up on the health care needs of students Prepare regular written reports for supervisor, MDPH and other relevant agencies. Notify appropriate individuals, ie parents, staff, physicians of immediate and potential health related concerns. Participates in school health related activities as deemed appropriate for school nurse by principal/supervisor Provide information about health and disease prevention in cooperation with health education programs within Springfield Public Schools Promotes healthy programs in collaboration with coalitions, associations, CDC and Department of Public Health Acts as a resource in health education to students and families and refers to appropriate help agencies when necessary Initiate, promote, maintain and implement programs for the recognition, prevent and control of disease, including giving immunizations.
