Summary GENERAL SUMMARY The RN - Trauma Staff Nurse Manager is responsible for managing trauma service personnel, coordinating the workflow and functions of the Trauma Service Line to facilitate safe and efficient workflow and clinical practices. In collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and senior leadership, this position is responsible for the management and delivery of quality, cost effective, and evidence-based patient care that fits the criteria of a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. This position is responsible for the Trauma Program’s overall operations with 24-hour accountability. The RN - Trauma Staff Nurse Manager seeks guidance from the Trauma Medical Director and/or executive leadership for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies and standards of practice. Reports to the CNO/Vice President of Patient Care Services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides leadership and serves as the liaison between the trauma service and hospital services necessary to provide care to multiple-injured patients. Ensures that the Trauma Program satisfies all the requirements of the Commonwealth of Virginia designation as a Level 1Pediatric Trauma Center. Serves as the primary contact and resource for the nursing services required for trauma care from the time of admission and continuing through rehabilitation and follow up care. Delegates, problem solves, makes decisions, and develops systems and processes for successful integration and implementation. Provides oversight and management of all aspects of the Trauma Program to include but not to be limited to processes / systems, program analysis, development, implementation, facilitation, evaluation, restructuring, monitoring and/or consultation. Participates in the development of the strategic goals of the Trauma Service Line Manages research for service area, develops processes to promote quality of service and budgetary compliance of department budget and Trauma Fund grant. Maintains appropriate standards of practice and standards of care for all traumatically injured patients Monitors operations and quality standards to assure compliance with governmental regulations and the established standards of accrediting agencies. Performs ongoing gap analysis for trauma center accreditation, designation, and verifications requirements to optimize patient care and outcomes Oversee and maintain all aspects of the trauma PIPS program consistent with accrediting agency(s) in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director. Supervise data collection, coding, scoring validation, reporting and analysis to ensure the data drives all aspects of the trauma service line (clinical care, research, benchmarking) Foster and maintain relationships with prehospital agencies and referring facilities and provide feedback on patient care and outcomes. Develop and foster community outreach for the trauma program to raise awareness and promote growth to include injury prevention in the community served Serve as liaison to the Office of EMS and participate in quarterly meetings and workgroups Independently carries out and is accountable for daily operations and other assigned activities Performs all other duties as assigned. LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS Required Licenses and/or Certifications Registered Nursing License in the State of Virginia or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license required at time of hire. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required at time of hire or must be obtained within 1 year of hire. Required to obtain 30 Trauma Education Hours (THE) per 3-year verification cycle of which 50% must be from an extramural source (Per state requirement). MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field required. Preferred Education and Experience Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred. 1 year of Healthcare and/or management experience preferred. 1 year of Pediatric, Emergency Department or Trauma experience preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Demonstrated technical and professional knowledge unique to the business and/or clinical operations of the designated services (Nursing, Financial, Human Resource, Information Systems, Risk, Governance, Regulations, Planning and Marketing). Possesses leadership, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to plan, establish and maintain a professional work environment, direct subordinates and delegate tasks when necessary. Ability to identify problems and implement solutions for operational and organizational functions. Proficiency and technical aptitude with the use of Adobe Acrobat and MS Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word. Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment. Strong organizational and critical thinking skills with attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy. Overview Responsible for providing prenatal, postnatal, general medical care and treatment of patients within the Maternal Fetal Medicine division which is a division of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Nurse Practitioners are expected to function as an independent provider primarily coordinating pre-pregnancy, prenatal and post-partum care in women with high-risk pregnancies. This position will provide a combination of inpatient and outpatient care duties. Maternal Fetal Medicine nurse practitioners’ function in an expanded nursing role and perform selected tasks and services within the province of medicine as well as tasks that fall within the province of nursing. Nursing and medicine must maintain ongoing collaboration in education and practice so that the nurse practitioner is maximally effective in meeting the primary health-care needs of women. When performing nursing aspects of this role, the practitioner must have the opportunity to engage in independent as well as co-operative decision-making. When performing expanded aspects of the role that overlap with medicine, the practitioner must function in collaboration with qualified physicians within the framework of jointly approved guidelines. Nurse practitioners not only must be prepared and competent to apply additional knowledge and skills, but also must be ready and willing to accept responsibility and accountability for their practice. This position will require travel between all Maternal Fetal Medicine locations and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Responsibilities Obtain a complete health, psychosocial, obstetric, and gynecologic history and record findings in a systematic, accurate, and succinct form Perform a complete physical examination, with specific emphasis on the reproductive system Order, perform, and interpret routine laboratory tests Develop and implement plans for health promotion and health maintenance, including plans for disease prevention and provision of health education and counseling Provide periodic health assessment of normal, non-pregnant, and asymptomatic women Provide clinical management of women having gynecologic problems Provide assessment, education, and management for family planning and fertility control Provide prenatal care for women with pregnancies, giving attention to both maternal and fetal health Provide postpartum care, including attention to parent and infant relationships, for women who have had pregnancies Provide health education and counseling, with emphasis on physical and psychosocial dimensions of adolescence, sexuality, childbearing, parenting, climacteric, aging, and family life Co-manage care for patients with selected health complications in collaboration with the physician Arrange referrals to other members of the health-care team as needed and to community resources as appropriate Qualifications Required: Nurse Practitioners must have a MSN with a nurse practitioner focus. Overview The Nurse Manager is responsible for management of clinical services of the Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgery (MIGS) Division, within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN). The Nurse Manager works closely with the MIGS Division Director, MIGS Practice Manager, and Department Administrator to develop, implement, and maintain clinical programs that enhance the quality of care and achieve a high level of patient and provider satisfaction. The Nurse Manager is primarily responsible for the day-to-day clinical operations and oversight of the MIGS Division in both Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg. The Nurse Manager provides direction and manages professional employees and is accountable for the performance and results of a team within the framework of the OBGYN Department and EVMS Medical Group. Responsibilities Position will be actively involved in daily clinical support functions to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare. These functions will include hands on support and oversight within the MIGS clinical operations at the Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg locations, to include nursing, provider, and patient support and coordination throughout the day. Responsible for the tracking, trending, and auditing of daily and monthly clinical performance related to operational metrics and quality measures, ensuring the team is working within their scope of practice and meeting all associated metrics.Provide direct supervision of assigned MIGS clinical staff. Responsible for talent identification, hiring, onboarding, and training for new team members. Responsible for coordination and distribution of clinical staff assignments and schedules.
