Overview The Department of Medicine at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Assistant to join the team. Position assists Physicians and Nurses with patient care to include triage and stocking supplies. Also prepares patients for provider visits and assisting providers with procedure. Position includes responsibility to assist with front and back office procedures to include scheduling appointments, checking patinates in and out. Responsibilities Reviews list of patients coming in for next day’s appointments and obtains any missing clinical information prior to the visit. Phone triage and assist in calling patients & pharmacies to relay prescription, advice or instructions for the providers. Take vital signs such as height, weight, temperature and blood pressure, records in electronic health record. Chaperons and assists providers and nurses as requested. Maintains clean, well-equipped examination rooms, cleans and sterilizes instruments. Stock examination rooms and triage area with medical supplies. Inventory and submit reorder requests to office manager Check EMR tasks daily. Create weekly floor schedule for Providers & Nurses. Give injections under the supervision of the nursing staff. Answer incoming telephone calls and facilitate patient needs as appropriate. Also responsible for taking messages in the electronic health record, paging doctors when appropriate and answering inquiries. Will travel to other Internal Medicine practices to provide support when needed. Perform departmental employee respirator fit testing and coordinate with Environmental Services. Schedule patient appointments when needed. Check-in and check-out patients, obtain and scan referrals. Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum Qualifications and Skills: Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program. Equivalent military training will be accepted. Must have certification (CMA or RMA). Completion of BLS class and re-certify every 2 years. Must have some working knowledge of computers. Customer service-oriented individual is required. Overview This is a full time position for a Medical Assistant in the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, responsible for front and back office as well as assisting Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Nursing staff with examination and performing Urodynamic Testing of patients. Responsibilities Perform Urodynamic Testing on patients. Skilled at placing urethral catheters. Prepares charts for the next day; reviewing records from previous visits or new patient referrals, obtaining records from hospital or other inpatient/outpatient facilities, laboratory facilities to ensure the provider has all pertinent information at the time of the patient visit. Obtains insurance carrier prior authorization for patient medications when needed. Checks-in and checks-out patients, obtains and writes referrals, when appropriately trained and directed, and schedules outside appointments with specialists. PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES Give directions to patients and visitors. Handles pick-up and drop off medications. Phone triage. Takes vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure. May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician or RN, collect and process urine samples. Chaperons when appropriate and assist the providers during certain minor surgeries and diagnostic procedures, such as Pap Smears. Maintains clean, well-equipped examination rooms; cleans and sterilizes instruments. Stocks examination rooms and triage area with medical supplies. Inventories and reorders supplies. Document all information in EMR. Prepare education packets. Transport patients to hospital/ED when necessary Check EMR tasks daily Review patient lab results, discuss abnormal findings with the physician and follow up with patient regarding treatment as necessary Perform other duties, as assigned, according to the individual departmental needs. Travel between locations is required when needed. Qualifications EDUCATION : Completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification (RMA or CMA). Completion of BLS class and re-certify every 2 years. KNOWLEGDE, SKILLS, ABILITIES : Customer service-oriented individual is required. Must have some working knowledge of computers. Overview This is a position for a Medical Assistant with the Department of Family Medicine. Under direct supervision this position will assist with clinical duties and provide direct patient care, including taking vitals, administering meds/treatments, assisting physicians, doing wound care, patient education, documentation, and coordinating care, labs, and follow-ups in a fast-paced office. Responsibilities Triage incoming patients by obtaining vital signs, following standing triage orders, reconcile medication list, reconcile allergies, make sure immunizations are up to date and prepare patient for the visit. Completes delegated tasks from the current and prior day i.e.: patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, home health agency requests, medication prior authorizations, patient forms, and physician follow-up. All tasks must be reviewed, addressed, and marked appropriately before the close of each business day. Assist physicians with examinations, minor surgeries, diagnostic procedures and treatments. Provide basic patient care and education as directed by provider and standing orders. Coordinates services with specialists i.e.: radiation oncology, pulmonology, endocrinology, nutritional counseling, or social services consultation. Documents all correspondence and interventions in the electronic health record. Maintains current inventory of medical and office supplies Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains used instrumentation per department protocol. Medical Assistants are required to fill in for other clinical staff during vacations and illness and perform other duties as assigned by providers, or supervisors at both sites. The successful candidate in this role shall respond to questions from patients, family members, faculty/residents, other health care providers in a timely and professional manner. Patient inquiries should be answered on the same day they are received, before leaving for the day. If patient is not home at the first attempt, a notation should be made in the medical record. All patient conversations must be documented in the electronic medical record. Participate in all staff meetings, education lectures and quality improvement activities. Follow EVMS Medical Group protocols related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality. Complete annual recertification for Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA Compliance Training, Respiratory FIT and IT Policy. Maintain current CPR certification and any updates relating to M.A. Certification. Qualifications Successful completion of a Medical assistant program (or equivalent military training) and certification (CMA, CCMA, or RMA) is required or ability to obtain certification within the first 90-days of employment. Must complete a Basic Life Support (BLS) class and re-certify every 2 years. Previous medical office experience with relevant functions in a doctor's office preferred. Must have some working knowledge of computers. Detail oriented, self-motivated, and possess excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
