UMMC is the flagship academic medical center at the heart of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) located in downtown Baltimore. The Shock Trauma Post-Anesthesia Care Unit is a one-of-a-kind 12-bed, Phase 1 post-anesthesia care unit located in the Shock Trauma Tower 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. The clinical population is primarily adult patients (some adolescents) requiring post-operative care specializing in traumatic injury management. Beyond recovery care and procedural nursing, this team also accepts overflow from the Trauma Resuscitation Unit when needed to maintain trauma patient admission capacity. This team is guided by American Society of Peri-Anesthesia Nurse (ASPAN) Standards and maintains education/competency expectations across peri-anesthesia, trauma and critical care specialties in accordance with their role serving roughly 20 surgical/medical services. Nurses on this team must be passionate, energetic, and high-functioning professionals skilled in interdisciplinary collaboration, looking for a complex and dynamic clinical environment. Work requires analytical and problem-solving abilities necessary to reassign nursing staff to meet programming demands of unit; screen applicants (with supervision of nurse leader); identify training needs; and resolve nursing and administrative issues in absence of the nurse leader. In keeping with the Maryland Board of Nursing guidelines, all nurses must have an active Maryland nursing license to practice in the state of Maryland, or must have an active license in a compact state that allows them to practice in Maryland, if they reside in that compact state. A multistate licensee who changes primary state of residence to another party state shall apply for a multistate license in the new party state within 60 days. The rule requires that a nurse apply for a new license in a new primary state of residence within 60 days of relocating, it does not require the new license be issued within 60 days. #LI-SH1
