Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Nurse position is to participate under the administrative, clinical direction and leadership of the Director of the Neonatology Program and in collaborative relationship in the (Mother-Baby Unit), Neonatal Intensive Care Units (FICN and FIN Nurseries), Labor and Delivery areas with the other healthcare providers. Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY The purpose of this position is to support the Nurse Manager to ensure standards of professional practice are developed and maintained to achieve excellence and continuity in resident care. The Assistant Nurse Manager will be responsible for working in a collaborative manner with the Nurse Manager to direct and organize the nursing care for their assigned neighborhoods. The Assistant Nurse Manager will support the leadership, direction, and supervision of nursing staff, including RNs/LPNs, CNAs and Companions. This includes working in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and the neighborhood staff to balance schedules and maintain staffing levels that are consistent with resident needs, including needs as defined by their Plan of Care, activity and daily schedules, outside and in-house clinic visits, and school programs. The Assistant Nurse Manager will also review and/or modify staff assignments as necessary to ensure quality resident care. In addition, the Assistant Nurse Manager will participate in the hiring, interviewing and onboarding process, as well as periodic evaluation of staff that are assigned to their floor. Evaluations include annual performance reviews as well as interim coaching, counseling and progressive disciplines that may be required. The Assistant Nurse Manager will be responsible for working an on-site schedule of at least 4 days per week a that includes providing evening supervisory coverage and reporting off daily concerns and significant changes in resident condition to the night supervisors. The Assistant Nurse Manager will be included in a Nursing Leadership weekend rotation to ensure continuity of systems and protocols are maintained through the entire week. The Assistant Nurse Manager will demonstrate a commitment to the continuum of care for our residents, through participating in and promoting nursing practice while in the Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center and through follow up with collaborating hospitals in the case of transfers for escalations in care. Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Operating Room Technician II position is to be under the direct supervision of the professional nurse. The OR Technician II performs various duties to assist with surgical procedures and related operating room activities. The OR Technician II delivers care as reflected in the Association of Surgical Technologists’ Recommended Standards of Practice in a manner that is cost-effective without compromising quality of care. The OR Technician II possesses knowledge of the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures. The OR Technician II demonstrates competency to scrub for minor/major surgical and endoscopic surgical procedures. An Operating Room technician II is a non-certified technician. The OR Technician II participates in departmental quality assessment and improvement activities, meets hospital continuing education and certification requirements, participates in student teaching activities, upholds Patient Care Services philosophy and objectives, demonstrates knowledge of Association of Surgical Technologists’ Recommended Standards of Practice, AORN’s Age Specific Competency Statements and demonstrates professional growth and development. Overview About the Role The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that includes ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self-evaluation, leadership, and research. The APN is self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency. The APN in the Surgery Practices utilizes critical judgment in the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and the prescribing of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of patients diagnosed with a variety of surgical conditions/diseases. The APN practice will promote wellness through conducting research, providing education and works autonomously as well as in interdisciplinary teams. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Collects comprehensive patient health data/history including past and present medical, surgical, family, and social history. Diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient’s status are collected, interpreted, and documented at the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Completes the medication reconciliation process by documenting the current list of medications (including over the counter and nutritional supplements) taken by patient at each visit. Performs and documents an appropriate comprehensive physical assessment of patients which will include a review of systems, evaluation of manifestations and toxicities related to medical conditions and anticoagulation management. In collaboration with the physician, critically analyzes the assessment data/diagnostic tests and determines a diagnosis. In addition, develops a comprehensive plan of care that includes interventions of treatments to attain outcomes. Evaluates patient progress in attaining expected treatment outcomes. Monitors for signs and symptoms related to disease progression/recurrence. Appropriately manages medical and anticoagulation management emergencies according to protocol/policy. Prescribes and/or orders medications. Obtains appropriate consents for surgery and procedures. Ensures completion of all needed pre-operative tests, forms, and documents. Documents assessments, prescribing, plan, modifications to plan, and evaluation of care in the EMR. Qualifications What You’ll Bring Required: Completion of an educational program which is designed and conducted to prepare graduates to practice as an NP/APN with a master’s degree in nursing and eligible for certification by a national certifying body. A current Registered/Professional Nurse license and registration in the State of New Jersey is required. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem solving are essential. A minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience and current BLS certification are required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform in an expanded nursing role by providing specialty care to General Surgery patients in collaboration with the attending staff.
